YOU WILL NEED

■ Any DK yarn in red, pink, white

and beige

■ A 4mm (US G/6) hook

NOTES

Yarn labels are used through the gingham section of the Square. The colours they refer to will be indicated within the pattern. Change colour on final yrh of st before colour change is indicated and carry unused colour across the top of your work, enclosing the strand as you go.

FAIRY PICNIC SQUARE

For Rows 1-3 Yarn A represents red and Yarn B represent pink. Using Yarn A, ch16.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and next 2 ch, *change to Yarn B, dc in next 3 ch, change to Yarn A dc in next 3 ch; rep from * once more, turn. [15 sts]

Rows 2-3 Ch1 (does not count as st throughout) dc in first 3 sts, *change to Yarn B, dc in next 3 sts, change to Yarn A, dc in next 3 sts; rep from * once more, turn.

For Rows 4-6 Yarn A represents pink and Yarn B represents white.

Rows 4-6 As Row 2. Continue repeating Row 2 using the colours listed below.

For Rows 7-9 Yarn A represents red and Yarn B represent pink.

For Rows 10-12 Yarn A represents pink and Yarn B represents white. For Rows 13-15 Yarn A represents red and Yarn B represent pink. Fasten off.

BORDER

With RS facing, join beige in first st

of final row.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), *tr in next 14 sts, ch2, skip corner, 15tr evenly down side, ch2, skip corner, tr in first st across base of Square; rep from * once more omitting final tr, ss to top of beg ch-3. [60 sts, 2 ch-2 sps]

Round 2 (RS) Ch2 (counts as st throughout), *FPtr around next 2 sts, (BPtr around next 3 sts, FPtr around next 3 sts) twice, (htr, ch2, htr) in ch-2 sp, FPtr around next st; rep from * 3 times more omitting final FPtr on last rep, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Round 3 Ch2, *BPtr around next 2 sts, (FPtr around next 3 sts, BPtr around next 2 sts) twice, BPtr around next st, 3htr in ch-2 sp, BPtr around next 2 sts; rep from * 3 times more omitting final BPtr on last rep, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
