TENSION
7 sts and 8 rows measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over double crochet using a 9mm hook, or size needed to obtain correct tension
MEASUREMENTS
Hat measures approx 52cm (20 in) in circumference
ABBREVIATIONS
htr2tog (Yrh, insert hook in next st across, yrh and pull up a loop) twice, yrh and pull through all loops on hook

The combination of chunky yarn and basic techniques means this is a great make for those dipping their hook into making wearable crochet. You may be able to use some of your scrap yarn too.
NOTES
The Main Body of the Hat is worked in rounds from the bottom up.
The Brim is worked over the base of the Hat at the end.
HAT MAIN BODY
Using Pumpkin, ch36 and ss in last ch from hook (being careful not to twist the ch).
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), dc in each ch around, ss to beg dc. [36 sts] Round 2 (RS) Ch1, dc in each st around, ss to
beg dc. Round 3 Ch2 (does not count as st throughout), htr in each st around, change to Limelight, ss to beg htr. Round 4 As Round 3, changing to Dark Taupe before the joining ss.
Rounds 5-8 Ch2, htr in each st around, ss to
beg htr.
Round 9 Ch2, htr in first 4 sts, (htr2tog, htr in next 4 sts) 5 times, htr2tog, ss to beg htr. [30 sts]
Round 10 Ch2, (htr in next 3 sts, htr2tog) 6 times, ss to beg htr. [24 sts]
Round 11 Ch2, (htr in next 2 sts, htr2tog) 6 times, ss to beg htr. [18 sts]
Round 12 Ch2, (htr in next st, htr2tog) 6 times, ss to beg htr. [12 sts] Fasten off.
Thread tail through sts on final round and pull tight to close. Weave in end.
PEAK
With the top of the Hat facing you, join Pumpkin in base of 15th st from Round 1.
Row 1 (RS) Ch1, dc in ch at base of ss, dc in next 2 ch, (2dc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch) 4 times, turn. [19 sts]
Row 2 (WS) Ch1, skip first st, dc in each st to final 2 sts, skip next st, dc in final st, turn. [17 sts] Row 3 As Row 2. [15 sts]
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
