Change to Citronelle.

Round 2 Ch1, (htr in each st to corner, 3htr in corner) rep around, ss to top of beg htr. [816 sts] Change to Gypsum.

Round 3 Ch1, (dc in each st to corner, 3dc in corner) rep around, ss to beg dc. [824 sts] Change to Leaf.

Rounds 4-5 As Rounds 2-3. [840 sts] Change to Coral.

Round 6 As Round 2. [848 sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Rucksack

Pack up and go with an adorable rucksack by Marianne Rawlins, complete with three fun transporta­tion-themed patches

■ Stylecraft Naturals Organic Cotton (100% cotton, 50g/105m), 6 balls of Deep Sea (7199), 1 ball of each: Leaf (7171), Citronelle (7175), Coral (7180), Gypsum (7168)

■ A 4mm (US G/6) hook

■ Blue canvas, 100x3cm

■ Green zip, 28cm

■ Navy zip, 47cm

TENSION

16 sts and 18.5 rows measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over double crochet using a 4mm hook, or size needed to obtain correct tension

MEASUREMEN­TS

Rucksack measures approx 34x46cm (13 x18in)

NOTES

Rucksack is made in separate pieces, which are joined together at the end.

The Straps are lined with canvas for added strength.

The pattern includes 3 Patches, which are sewn to the front of the Rucksack. For the Campervan Patch you will need to refer to the Chart on page 95. Each small square represents 1dc. Read all RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right. The first 2 rows of colourwork have been written out to guide you.

RUCKSACK FRONT AND BACK MAKE 2

Using Deep Sea, ch55.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and every ch across, turn. [54 dc]

Rows 2-67 Ch1 (does not count as a st throughout), dc in each st across, turn.

Row 68 Ch1, dc2tog, dc to final st, turn leaving last st unworked. [52 dc]

Rows 69-71 Ch1, dc in every st across, turn. Row 72 As Row 68. [50 dc]

Rows 73-74 As Row 69.

Row 75 As Row 68. [48 dc]

Row 76 As Row 69.

Row 77 As Row 68. [46 dc]

Row 78 As Row 69.

Rows 79-83 As Row 68. [36 dc]

Row 84 Ch1, dc3tog, dc to final 2sts, turn leaving final 2 sts unworked. [32 dc]

Row 85 As Row 84. [28 dc]

Do not fasten off.

EDGING

Cont with Deep Sea,

Round 1 Ch1, dc in each st and row-end around, ss to beg dc. [256 dc] Fasten off. POCKET

Pocket is made up of 2 pieces, which are joined together with the green zip.

LOWER PIECE

Using Leaf, ch43.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and every ch across, turn. [42 dc]

Rows 2-23 Ch1, dc in each st across, turn. Row 24 Ss in first 5 sts, dc in next 32 sts, turn leaving final 5 sts unworked. [32 dc]

Rows 25-28 Ch1, dc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.

Fold the final 4 rows down so the row-ends line up with the 5 unworked sts at the beg and end of Row 24. Using Leaf, sew together to form the base of the Pocket.

UPPER PIECE

Using Leaf, ch43.

Rows 1-8 As Rows 1-8 of Lower Piece. [42 sts]

Row 9 (RS) Ss in first 5 sts, dc in next 32 sts, turn leaving final 5 sts unworked. [32 dc]

Rows 10-13 Ch1, dc in every st across, turn. Fold the final 4 rows down so the row-ends line up with the 5 unworked sts at the beg and end of Row 9. Using Leaf, sew together to form the top of the Pocket.

Pin the zip between the Lower and Upper Pieces and sew into place.

Using Leaf, sew the Pocket to the Front over Rows 5-38.

GUSSET

Using Deep Sea, ch15.

Row 1 Dc in second ch from hook and each ch across, turn. [14 dc]

Rows 2-182 Ch1, dc in every st across, turn. The Gusset continues in 2 sections to leave an opening for the zip.

Row 183 Ch1, dc in next 7 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [7 sts]

Rows 184-262 Ch1, dc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.

Join Deep Blue in first unworked st from Row 182.

Rep Rows 183-262 over the rem 7 sts. Fasten off.

Sew the ends of the split section to the base of Row 1 to join.

EDGING

Join Deep Blue in any row-end around one edge of Gusset, dc in each row-end around, ss to beg dc. Fasten off.

Rep Edging on opposite edge.

Using Gypsum, dc seam the Front and Back to the edges of the Gusset, making sure the opening is positioned centrally at the top. Pin the navy zip into the opening and sew into place.
