HOW TO CREATE AN ALTERNATIVE INVISIBLE JOIN

-

I’m Nerissa, an Australian expat in the Netherlands. I grew up on a farm in South Australia, so sheep and wool are in my DNA. I was taught to knit and spin as a child, and I think I learned to crochet by osmosis. Over the years I have developed all sorts of little tricks to level up my crochet skills quickly and easily, and I cannot wait to share them with you. These tips will all help to make you a better crocheter with very little effort!

When working in the round, it can be hard to create the perfect finish. Often, when working a standard slip stitch join, you can see the bump that the knot leaves behind, and the join can be too tight, too. I’m sharing how I like to create an invisible join – it’s a bit different to the instructions you’ll find in Simply Crochet, but you might find it’s the best option, especially when working standing stitches.

When using this hack, the join will disappear almost completely, to the point where you may even struggle to find the join in your own work!

Step 1: When completing the final stitch of the round, fasten off leaving a 15cm tail, pull the tail through the top of that last stitch.

Step 2: Insert your hook back to front through the 2 loops of the first stitch of the round and pull the tail through both loops.

Step 3: Insert your hook from back to front through the back loop of the last stitch of the round, yrh and pull the tail through the loop.

Step 4: Pull the tail and adjust the tension of the loop to match your stitches, then slip stitch to the back of your work. Weave in tail.
