NOTES
Square is worked in rounds with RS facing. Roof, Base, Heart, Perch, Bird and Wing are made separately and sewn to the Square at the end.
SUMMER BIRDHOUSE SQUARE
Using a 3.5mm hook and yellow, make a magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 11htr in loop, ss to top of beg htr. [11 sts]
Round 2 (RS) Ch1, 2htr in each st around, ss to beg htr. [22 sts]
Round 3 Ch1, (2htr in next st, 1htr) 11 times, ss to beg htr. [33 sts]
Round 4 Ch1, htr in next 2 sts, (2htr in next st, 2htr) 10 times, 2htr in final st, ss to beg htr. [44 sts] Change to white.
Round 5 Ch1, *dc in next 2 sts, htr in next 2 sts, tr in next st, 2tr in next st, ch2, 2tr in next st, tr in next st, htr in next 2 sts, dc in next st; rep from * 3 times more, ss to beg dc. [52 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]
Round 6 Ch2 (does not count as st throughout), *tr in each st to ch-2 sp, (tr, ch2, tr) in ch-sp; rep from * around, ss to beg tr.
[60 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]
Round 7 Ch2, tr in each st to ch-2 sp, (2tr, ch1, 2tr) in ch-sp; rep from * around, ss to beg tr.

Fasten off. ROOF
Using a 3mm hook and red, ch24.
Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook, dc in next 10 ch, 2dc in next ch, dc in next 11 ch.
Fasten off. BASE
Using a 3mm hook and green, ch12.
Row 1 (RS)
Ss in second ch from hook and each ch to end.
Fasten off. HEART
Using a 3mm hook and brown, make a magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) Ch3, 3dtr in loop, 3tr in loop, picot, 3tr in loop, 3dtr in loop, ch3, ss in loop.
Fasten off. PERCH
Using a 3mm hook and brown, ch2. Round 1 (RS) 4dc in second ch from hook, ss to beg dc.
Fasten off. BIRD
Using a 3mm hook and blue, ch6.
Row 1 (RS) Ss in second ch from hook, ss in next ch, 2dc in next ch, htr in next ch, 6tr in last ch, turn to work down opposite side of foundation ch, htr in next ch, ss in next ch, leave rem ch unworked.
Fasten off. WING
Using a 3mm hook and light blue, ch3. Row 1 (RS) 2dc in second ch from hook, ss in same ch. [3 sts]
Fasten off. TO FINISH
Use the image as a guide when assembling your Square.
Sew the Wing on the Bird before sewing the Bird to the Square. Using black stranded cotton, embroider the eye.
Using orange, embroider the beak and the legs.
Using brown, embroider the hanging wire on the Birdhouse. Weave in all ends.
