YOU WILL NEED

■ Any DK yarn in orange, white,

yellow, black and green

■ A 4mm (US G/6) hook

■ A 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook

Square measures approx 10x10cm (4x4in)

NOTES

Square is worked in rounds. The Ears, Eyes and Snout are made separately and sewn in place at the end.

TIGERRIFFI­C SQUARE

Using a 4mm hook and orange, ch4. Round 1 11tr into last ch from hook, ss to top of beg ch-4. [12 sts]

Round 2 Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 2tr in next 11 sts, tr in same st as beg ch-3, ss to top of beg ch-3. [24 sts]

Change to green.

Round 3 Ch2 (counts as htr), (htr, ch3, 2htr) in st at base of ch-2, *htr in next st, dc in next 3 sts, htr in next st**, (2htr, ch3, 2htr) in next st; rep from * 3 times more ending last rep at **, ss to top of beg ch-2. [36 sts, 4 ch-3 sps] Round 4 Ch2, *htr in each st to ch-3 sp, (2htr, ch2, 2htr) in ch-3 sp; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-2. [52 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Fasten off. EARS (MAKE 2)

Using a 3mm hook and orange, ch4. Row 1 (RS) 6tr in last ch from hook. [6 sts]

Fasten off leaving a long tail. SNOUT Using a 3mm hook and white, ch4.

Round 1 (RS) 11tr in last ch from hook, ss to top of beg ch-4. [12 sts]

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

EYES (MAKE 2)

Using a 3mm hook and yellow, ch2. Round 1 (RS) 6dc into second ch from hook, ss to beg dc. [6 sts]

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

TO FINISH

Using the images as a guide, sew the Ears, Eyes and Snout onto the Square.

Using black, embroider the pupils onto the Eyes, the mouth and nose onto the Snout and stripes around the edges of the face. Weave in all ends.

SOFT PETALS

Using Yarn A, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 11tr in loop, ss to top of beg ch-3. [12 sts]

Round 2 (RS) Ch3, FPtr around st at base of ch-3, (tr in next st, FPtr around same st) 11 times, s to top of beg ch-3. [24 sts] Join Yarn B in any st.

Round 3 Ch3, (tr, ch2, 2tr) in st at base of ch-3, (skip 2 sts, double v-st in next st) 7 times, ss to top of beg ch-3. [8 double v-sts] Round 4 Ch1 (count as dc), (7tr in centre of v-st, dc in sp between v-sts) 7 times, 7tr in final v-st, ss to beg ch-1. [64 sts]

Fasten off.

Join Yarn C in any dc.

Round 5 Ch5 (counts as tr, ch2), tr in st at base of ch-5, *ch2, skip 3 tr, dc in next tr, ch2, skip 3 tr, v-st in next dc; rep from * 7 times more omitting final v-st on last rep, ss to third ch of beg ch-5, ss into ch-2 sp. [8 v-sts, 8 dc]

Round 6 Ch3, (2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same sp, *(ch1, 3tr in next ch-sp) 5 times, ch1**, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) in same sp; rep from * 3 times more ending final rep at **, ss to top of beg ch-3. [84 sts, 4 ch-3 sps, 24 ch-1 sps]

Round 7 Ch4 (counts as, tr, ch1), *(3tr, ch3, 3tr) in corner ch-3 sp, ch1, (3tr, ch1) in each ch-1 sp across to next corner; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-3.

Fasten off and weave in ends. 8
