■ Any DK yarn in red, orange,

yellow, green, blue and purple ■ A 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook

Square measures approx 10x10cm (4x4in)

NOTES

Square is worked in a mixture of rounds and rows. Change colour at the end of each row/round by fastening off the previous colour.

RAINBOW BURST

Using red, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 11tr in loop, ss to top of beg ch-3. [12 sts]

Fasten off.

Join orange in sp between any 2 tr.

Round 2 Ch3, tr in same sp, 2tr in sp between each st around, ss to top of beg ch-3. [24 sts]

Fasten off.

Join yellow in sp between any 2 tr and work all sts in sps between tr from Round 2.

Round 3 Ch3, *(2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same sp, skip 3 sts, 3tr in next sp, skip 3 sts, tr in next sp; rep from * 3 times more omitting final tr on last rep, ss to top of beg ch-3.

[12 3-tr groups, 4 ch-3 sps]

Fasten off.

With RS facing, join green in any ch-3 sp. Row 4 Ch3, 2tr in same sp, (3tr in sp before next 3-tr group) twice, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch-3 sp, (3tr in sp before next 3-tr group) twice, 3tr in next ch-3 sp.

[8 3-tr groups, 1 ch-3 sp]

Fasten off.

With RS facing, join blue in first st from Row 4.

Row 5 Ch3, skip 2 sts, 3tr in each sp between 3-tr groups across to ch-3 sp, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) in ch-3 sp, 3tr in each sp between 3-tr groups across to ch-3 sp, skip 2 sts, tr in final st.

[8 3-tr groups, 1 ch-3 sp, 2 tr]

Fasten off.

Join purple in ch-3 sp.

Round 6 Ch3, (2tr, ch3, 3tr) in same sp, 3tr in next 3 sps between 3-tr groups, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) around post of final st from Row 5, 3tr in ch-3 sp from Round 3, 3tr in next 2 sps between 3-tr groups, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) in ch-3 sp from Round 3, 3tr in next 3 sps between 3-tr groups, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) around post of beg ch-3 from Row 5, 3tr in next 3 sps between 3-tr groups, ss to top of beg ch-3.

[20 3-tr groups, 4 ch-3 sps]

Fasten off and weave in ends.
