■ Any DK yarn in blue, light brown, dark brown, bright red, dark red, green and yellow

■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook

■ 2 safety eyes, 8mm

■ White stranded cotton

■ Toy stuffing

Square measures approx 10x10cm (4x4in) NOTES

Parts of this pattern are worked in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a ss. You may find it helpful to mark the first st of the round, moving it up as you go. If you are making this for a child under 36 months, do not use safety eyes; instead, embroider eyes with black stranded cotton. BURGER BUDDY SQUARE

Using light brown, make a magic loop. Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count

as st throughout), 6dc in loop. [6 sts] Round 2 2dc in each st around.

[12 sts]

Round 3 (2dc in next st, 1dc) 6 times. [18 sts]

Round 4 (2dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [24 sts]

Round 5 (2dc in next st, 3dc) 6 times. [30 sts]

Round 6 (4dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times, ss to beg dc. [36 sts] Change to blue.

Round 7 Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), (tr, ch2, 2tr) in st at base of ch-3, *htr in next st, dc in next 6 sts, htr in next st**, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in next st; rep from * 3 times more ending final rep at **, ss to top of beg ch-3. [48 sts]

Round 8 Ch2 (counts as htr), *htr in each st to ch-2 sp, (2htr, ch2, 2htr) in ch-sp; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-2. [64 sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends. BAP

BASE

Using light brown, make a magic loop. Rounds 1-5 (RS) As Rounds 1-5 of

Square. [30 sts]

Round 6 (4dc, 2dc in next st) 6

times. [36 sts] Fasten off.

TOP Rounds 1-6 (RS) As Rounds 1-6 of

Base. [36 sts]

Rounds 7-8 Dc in each st around. Fasten off leaving a 25cm tail. Insert safety eyes between Rounds 3-4, 3 sts apart.

Using the tail, sew the Base to the top, stuffing as you join. TOMATO

Using bright red, make a magic loop. Rounds 1-4 (RS) As Rounds 1-4 of square. [24 sts]

Change to Dark Red.

Round 5 (2dc in next st, 3dc) 6 times, ss to beg dc. [30 sts] Fasten off. LETTUCE

Using green, make a magic loop.

Rounds 1-4 (RS) As Rounds 1-4 of

Square. [24 sts]

Round 5 Ch3, 2tr in st at base of ch-3, 3tr in each st around, ss to top of beg ch-3. [72 sts] Fasten off.

BURGER

Using dark brown throughout, work as for Tomato. CHEESE

Using yellow, ch11.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and each ch across, turn. [10 sts] Rows 2-10 Ch1, dc in each st across, turn. Fasten off. TO FINISH

Sew the one edge of the Cheese to the Square. Sew Burger, Lettuce, Tomato and Bun above the Cheese.

Using white stranded cotton, embroider seeds on top of Bun. Weave in all ends.
