Tss (Tunisian simple stitch) Loop on hook counts as first st, *insert hook through vertical bar of next st across, yrh and pull up loop, keep loop on hook; rep from * as indicated

RetP (return pass) Yrh, pull through first loop on hook, (yrh and pull through 2 loop) rep across to end

lTFPtr (long Tunisian front post treble) Yrh, insert hook from right to left under the front and back strands of vertical bar 2 rows

below, yrh and pull up a loop, yrh and pull through 2 loops on the hook, skip the next st on current row

Square is worked in rows with RS facing throughout. Tunisian crochet works a forward pass and return pass each row. On the forward pass you will be adding a loop to the hook for each st across, and on the return pass you will be removing a loop at a time until you are back to one loop ready to start the next row. At the start of each row the loop on your hook counts as the first st. Do not work into the vertical bar on the edge of the work; start in the second vertical bar of the row. Colours are referred to as Yarns A-E. Change colour on the final yrh of RetP before colour change is indicated. We recommend blocking this Square at the end.

Using Yarn A, ch17.

Row 1 (RS) Insert hook in second ch from hook, yrh and pull up loop, (insert hook in next ch, yrh and pull up a loop) 15 times (16 loops on hook), RetP across.

[16 sts]

Change to Yarn B.

Row 2 (RS) Tss in each st across (17 loops on hook), RetP across. Change to Yarn A.

Row 3 Tss in next 3 sts, lTFPtr , (Tss in next 3 sts, lTFPtr) twice, Tss in final 4 sts (17 loops on hook, RetP across.

Change to Yarn C.

Row 4 As Row 2.

Change to Yarn A.

Row 5 Tss in next st, lTFPtr , (Tss in next 3 sts, lTFPtr) 3 times, Tss in final 2 sts, RetP across. Change to Yarn D.

Rows 2-5 set the pattern.

Rep Rows 2-5.

Rows 6-17 Rep Rows 2-5 changing colour at the end of every RetP in the following sequence: *Yarn A,

Yarn E, Yarn A, Yarn B, Yarn A, Yarn C, Yarn A, Yarn D; rep from * to end.

Do not fasten off. BORDER

Change to standard 5mm hook.

Round 1 *Ss around each vertical bar across to corner, 3dc in corner, 17dc evenly across to next corner, 3dc in corner; rep from * once more, ss to beg ss.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
