Square is worked in rounds with RS facing. All other parts are made separately and sewn in place at the end. Parts of the pattern are worked in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it helpful to mark the first st of the round, moving it up as you go.

BILLY GOAT SQUARE

Using grey, make a magic loop .

Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 6dc in loop. [6 sts] Round 2 (RS) 2dc in each st around. [12 sts]

Round 3 (1dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [18dc]

Round 4 (2dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [24 sts]

Round 5 (3dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [30 sts]

Round 6 (4dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [36 sts]

Round 7 (5dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [42 sts]

Round 8 (6dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times, ss to beg dc. [48 sts] Fasten off.

Join green in any st.

Round 9 Ch6 (counts as dtr, 2ch), dtr in st at base of ch-6, *dtr in next st, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 2 sts, dc in next st, htr in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dtr in next st**, (dtr, ch2, dtr) in next st; rep from * 3 times more ending final rep at **, ss to fourth ch of beg ch-6.

[52 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 10 Ch3 (counts as tr), *(2tr, ch3, 2tr) in ch-2 sp, tr in each st to next ch-2 sp; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-3.

[68sts, 4 ch-3 sps]

Round 11 Ch1, *dc in each st to ch-3 sp, 3dc in ch-3 sp; rep from * around, ss to beg dc. [80 sts] Fasten off. SNOUT

Using white, make a magic loop.

Rounds 1-4 (RS) As Rounds 1-4 of Square. [24 sts]

Round 5 (3dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times, ss to beg dc. [30 sts]

Fasten off leaving a long tail. HORNS (MAKE 2)

Using white, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1, 6dc in loop.

[6 sts] Rounds 2-4 Dc in each st around. Fasten off leaving a long tail. EARS (MAKE 2)

Using grey, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1, 6dc in loop.

[6 sts] Round 2 (1dc, 2dc in next st) 3 times. [9 sts] Rounds 3-4 Dc in each st around. Round 6 (1dc, in dec) 3 times. [6 sts]

Round 7 Dc in each st around. Fasten off.

Thread tail through fl of final 6 sts and pull tight to close. EYES (MAKE 2)

Using black, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1, 4dc in loop, ss to beg dc. [4 sts] Fasten off. TO FINISH

Cut 7 strands of white, 10 cm long. Fold one strand in half. Insert hook under the loop of any stitch of the Snout. Place folded end on the hook and pull through, thread tails through folded end and pull to secure. Repeat for the remaining strands. Untwist the yarn to create the hair effect.

Using the image as a guide, sew the Snout, Eyes, Ears and Horns in place.

Using black, embroider the mouth onto the Snout.

Weave in all ends.
