If you’re excited for the holidays, get started on a zingy festive blanket that’s all about fun! Designed by Catherine Venner

■ Scheepjes Colour Crafter (100% acrylic 100g/300m), 5 balls of Weert (1001), 1 ball each: Groningen (1259), Leuven (2008), Hilversum (1257), Knokke (2012), The Hague (1256)

■ Scheepjes Softy (75% polyester, 25% nylon,

50g/145m), 2 balls of White (494)

■ A 4mm (US G/6) hook

TENSION

Tension is not critical for this project, but it may affect the yarn quantities required

MEASUREMEN­TS

Blanket measures approx 120x120cm (47¼x47¼in)

NOTES

Blanket is worked in rows.

There is a Chart on page 88, which you should refer to for all colour changes. Each small square represents 1dc. Read all RS rows from right to left and all WS rows from left to right. The first few rows of the Chart have been written out to guide you.

Change colour on the final yrh of st before colour change is indicated. Leave the previous colour on the WS ready to use on the next row. You will need to use 2 balls of Weert: 1 for each side of the tree, rather than carrying the yarn across.

TREE BLANKET

Using Weert, ch181.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second chain from hook and in each ch across, turn. [180 sts]

Row 2 (WS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), dc in each st across, turn.

Rows 3-20 As Row 2.

Rows 21-26 Ch1, dc in first 73 sts, change to Hilversum, dc in next 34 sts, change to Weert, dc in in each to end, turn.

Rows 27-32 As Row 2.

Rows 33-38 Ch1, dc in first 77 sts, change to Leuven, dc in next 26 sts, change to Weert, dc in in each to end, turn.

Rows 39-170 Cont in patt using the Chart for all colour changes. Fasten off.

BORDER

Join Leuven in any corner.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1, (dc, ch2, dc) in corner, (ch1, skip next st or row-end, dc in next st or row-end) rep across to next corner; rep from * 3 times more, ss to beg dc. [708 sts] Fasten off.

Join Knokke in any ch-2 sp.

Round 2 (RS) Ch1, *(dc, ch2, dc) in ch-2 sp, (dc, ch1) in each ch-1 sp across to next corner; rep from * 3 times more, ss to beg dc.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
