■ Scheepjes Softy (75% polyester, 25% nylon,

50g/145m), 1 ball of White (494),

■ Scheepjes Catona (100% cotton, 50g/125m), 1 ball of each: Neon Orange (603), Neon Yellow (601), Neon Pink (604), Neon Green (602), Cyan (397)

■ A 4mm (US G/6) hook

■ A 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook

■ 20 safety eyes, 45mm

■ Craft wire

■ Starch spray

■ A pompom maker, 25mm

TENSION

Tension is not critical for this project, but it may affect the yarn quantities required

Bunting measures 275cm (108¼in) long

ABBREVIATI­ONS

invisible join Fasten off leaving a 20cm tail, without closing the round with a ss, pull final loop so the tail comes through the top of the final st, thread tail onto a darning needle, insert needle from front to back through top of second st of round and pull yarn through, insert needle through the back 2 loops on final st on round, weave in end

NOTES

Each Reindeer is made separately and joined with a long chain to form the Bunting. Due to the use of safety eyes and craft wire, this item is not suitable for small children.

REINDEER BUNTING FACE (MAKE 10)

Make 2 in each colour except White.

Using a 4mm hook, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 10htr in loop, ss to beg htr. [10 htr]

Round 2 Ch1, 2htr in each st around, ss to beg htr. [20 htr]

Round 3 Ch1, (2htr in next st, 1htr) 10 times, ss to beg htr. [30 htr]

Round 4 Ch2 (does not count at st throughout), 2tr in first st, tr in next 2 sts, 2tr in next st, tr in next st, htr in next st, (2htr in next st, htr in next 2 sts) 6 times, 2htr in next st, tr in next 2 sts, 2tr in next st, tr in next 2 sts. [40 sts] Invisible join.

EARS (MAKE 2 PER REINDEER)

Using a 4mm hook, join same colour used for the Face into the 19th st from Round 4.

Row 1 (RS) Ch2, tr in next 3 sts, turn. [3 sts] Row 2 Ch2, tr in first st, 2tr in next st, tr in final st, turn. [4 sts]

Row 3 Ch1, dc in each st across. [4 dc]. Fasten off.

Attach same colour in 30th st from Round 4 and rep Rows 1-3 to make second Ear.

ANTLERS

Using a 4mm hook, attach any colour into 24th st from Round 4 of Face.

Ch8, ss in second ch from hook, ss in next 2 ch, ch5, ss in second ch from hook and next 3 ch, ss in ch at base of ch-5, ss in next 3 ch, ch3, ss in second ch from hook and next ch, ss in ch at base of ch-3, ss in final ch from ch-8, ss in next 2 sts from Round 4, ch6, ss in second ch from hook and next ch, ch5, ss in second ch from hook and next 3 ch, ss in ch at base of ch-5, ss in next 2 ch, ch7, ss in second ch from hook, ss in next 5 ch, ss in ch at base of ch-7, ss in final ch.

Fasten off.

Pin out the Reindeer and spray with starch.

HANGING STRING

Using a 3mm hook and Cyan, ch25, ss in first ch from hook, ch25, *ss in corner of Ear on first motif, ch15, ss in corner of next Ear, ch35; rep from * until all motifs have been joined, ch15, ss in 25th ch from hook. Fasten off and weave in ends.

TO FINISH

Make 10 small pompoms. Trim the pompoms to create a dense nose and sew over the magic loop.

Insert safety eyes onto each Reindeer.

Cut wire to the size of the antlers and thread through the sts to add support.
