■ Scheepjes Terrazzo (70% recycled mulesingfr­ee wool, 30% recycled viscose, 50g/175m), 2 balls of Lago (738), 1 ball of each: Cardo (727), Lampone (721), Olivia (707), Mandarino (715), Pavone (753), Opale (734)

■ A 5.5mm (US I/9) hook

TENSION

Square Motif measures 20x20cm (7¾x7¾in) once blocked using a 5.5mm hook, or size needed to obtain correct tension

MEASUREMEN­TS

Cushion cover measures 40x40cm (15¾x15¾in)

NOTES

Cushion Front is made up of 4 Squares. The Squares are joined together with a dc seam. The Back is worked in rounds with RS facing throughout. Change colour on the final yrh of st before colour change is indicated. Work over the yarn tails where possible to reduce the number of ends you need to weave in.

FOUR-SQUARE CUSHION

SQUARE MOTIF (MAKE 4) Using Cardo, ch6.

Row 1 Dc in second ch from hook and each ch across, turn. [5 sts]

Rows 2-4 Ch1, dc in each st across, turn.

Row 5 Ch1, dc in each st across, change to Lampone, do not turn.

Row 6 Turn to work down row-end edge, ch1, 4dc across to corner, (dc, ch2, dc) in corner, turn to work across bottom edge, 4dc across, turn. [10 sts]

Rows 7-8 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, turn. [14 sts] Row 9 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, change to Olivia, do not turn. [16 sts]

Row 10 Turn to work down edge of rows from Rows 6-9, ch1, 7dc to corner, (dc, ch2, dc) in corner, 7dc to next corner, turn. [16 sts]

Rows 11-12 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, turn. [20 sts] Row 13 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, change to Mandarino, do not turn. [22 sts]

Row 14 Turn to work down edge of rows from prev 4 rows, ch1, 11dc to corner, (dc, ch2, dc) in corner, 11dc to next corner, turn. [24 sts]

Rows 15-16 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, turn. [28 sts]

Row 17 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, change to Pavone, do not turn. [30 sts]

Row 18 Turn to work down edge of rows from prev 4 rows, ch1, 14dc to corner, (dc, ch2, dc) in corner, 14dc to next corner, turn. [30 sts]

Rows 19-20 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, turn. [34 sts] Row 21 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, change to Opale, do not turn. [36 sts]

Row 22 Turn to work down edge of rows from prev 4 rows, ch1, 18dc to corner, (dc, ch2, dc) in corner, 18dc to next corner, turn. [38 sts] Rows 23-24 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, turn. [42 sts]

Row 25 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, change to Lago, do not turn. [44 sts]

Row 26 Turn to work down edge of rows from prev 4 rows, ch1, 21dc to corner, (dc, ch2, dc) in corner, 21dc to next corner, turn. [44 sts] Rows 27-28 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end, turn. [48 sts]

Row 29 Ch1, dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, dc in each st to end. [50 sts] Fasten off.

EDGING

With RS facing, join Cardo in ch-2 sp in Row 29. Round 1 (RS) Ch1, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each st to next corner, *(dc, ch1, dc) in corner, 25dc evenly across to next corner; rep from * twice more, ss to beg dc. [108 sts]

Round 2 (RS) Ch1, *dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, skip next st after ch-sp; rep from * around, ss to beg dc. [112 sts]

Fasten off.

Using the image as a guide, with RS facing, dc Squares together using Cardo. Weave in ends.

BACK

Using Lago, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3, 2tr in loop, ch3, (3tr in loop, ch3) 3 times, ss to top of beg ch-3. [12 sts] Round 2 Ch3, *tr in each st to ch-3 sp, (2tr, ch3, 2tr) in ch-2 sp, skip first tr after ch-sp; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-3. [24 sts]

Rep Round 2 another 17 times. [228 sts] Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP

Place Front and Back together with RS facing out. Using Cardo, dc the Panels together working 3dc in each corner sp. Insert the cushion pad before joining the final side. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Cushion is made up of one Front Panel and two Back Panels.

The Front Panel may be slightly narrower than the Back Panels as it is stretched slightly when joined.

TWEED CUSHION

FRONT PANEL

Change colour at the end of each row in the following sequence: Yarns A, B, C, D, E, F and G. Using Yarn A, ch62.

Row 1 (RS) Tr in fourth ch from hook, tr in each ch across, turn. [60 sts]

Row 2 Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), (FPtr around next st, BPtr around next st) 29 times, tr in final st, turn.

Row 3 Ch3, (BPtr around next st, FPtr around next st) 29 times, tr in final st, turn.

Rows 4-43 Rep Rows 2-3.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

BACK

TOP PANEL

Using Yarn A, ch62.

Row 1 (RS) Htr in third ch from hook, htr in each st across, turn. [60 sts]

Row 2 Ch2 (counts as htr throughout), htr in each st across, turn.

Rows 3-23 Repeat Row 2.

Change to Yarn G.

Row 24 Ch1 (does not count a st throughout), dc across, turn.

Row 25 Ch1, (15dc, ch6, ss in sixth chain from hook), 3 times, 15dc. [60sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

BOTTOM PANEL

Using Yarn A, work Rows 1-23 of Top Panel. Fasten off and weave in ends.

TO MAKE UP

Pin the Back Panels to the Front Panel, so RS are facing out. Make sure the button loops on the Top Back Panel are lying across the centre of the Back.

Join Yarn G in any corner and work next round through Front and Back to join.

Round 1 Ch1, *3dc in corner, 60dc across to corner; rep from * 3 times more, ss to beg dc. Round 2 Ch1, reverse dc around, ss to beg dc. Fasten off.

Using Yarn A, sew the buttons to the Bottom Back Panel, in line with the button loops. Weave in all ends.
