Jumper

It’s simple but stylish. Fran’s jumper is an uncomplica­ted knit-and- purl affair with garter stitch edges.

TENSION

Yarn used knits as chunky to this tension: 14 sts and 20 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over patt using 6mm needles

BACK AND FRONT

( Worked alike, apart from * which denotes the lengths for back and ** which denotes the length for front)

Cast on 80 ( 86: 92: 100) sts using 6mm needles. Knit 4 rows ( garter st). Next row (RS) K40 ( 43: 46: 50), P37 ( 40: 43: 47), K3.

This row sets the patt, with side opening 3 sts wide in garter st and centre sts in patt. Cont as set until work measures *15cm for Back and **8cm in for Front, ending with a WS row.

Next row K40 ( 43: 46: 50), P40 ( 43: 46: 50). Place markers at each end of last row. Rep the last row until work measures *46 ( 47: 48: 49) cm from markers ending with WS row.

SHAPE NECK

Next row (RS) K28 ( 31: 34: 38), turn. Leave rem sts on a holder. Work each side of neck separately.

LEFT SIDE NECK

Next row ( WS) Cast off 2 sts at beg of row (neck edge), then 2 sts at beg of next alt row (neck edge). [24 ( 27: 30: 34) sts]

SHAPE SHOULDER

Cast off 8( 9: 10: 11) sts at beg of next 2 RS rows. Cast off rem 8 ( 9: 10: 12) sts. With RS facing, rejoin yarn to sts left on holder, cast off centre 24 sts, patt to end of row.

RIGHT SIDE NECK

Work 1 row. Next row (RS) Cast off 2 sts at beg of row, (neck edge), then 2 sts at beg of next alt row (neck edge). [24 ( 27: 30: 34) sts]

SHAPE SHOULDER

Cast off 8( 9: 10: 11) sts at beg of next 2 RS rows. Cast off rem 8 ( 9: 10: 12) sts.

SLEEVES

Cast on 30 ( 32: 34: 36) sts using 6mm needles. Knit 4 rows ( garter st). Row 1 (RS) K15 ( 16: 17: 18), P15 ( 16: 17: 18). This row sets the patt. Rep the last row from now on, shaping Sleeve as folls:

Next row K2, M1, work to last 2 sts, M1, K2. [2 sts inc’d] Patt 5 rows.

Rep the last 6 rows 4 times more, taking new sts into pattern. [40 ( 42: 44: 46) sts]

Next row K2, M1, work to last 2 sts, M1, K2. [2 sts inc’d] Patt 7 rows.

Rep the 2 rows 5 times more, taking new sts into pattern. [52 ( 54: 56: 58) sts] Cont in patt until work measures 46cm. Cast off all sts.

TO MAKE UP

Join shoulder seams.

Fold Sleeve together vertically, and placing fold at shoulder seam, sew in place. Join side and sleeve seams. Block gently to measuremen­ts, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.
