Overlap pipecleaners by 2.5cm and twist together tightly to form a longer piece, then trim to measure 46cm. Bend back 12mm at each end to neaten. Starting at gathered top edge, oversew side edges of stalk piece together, stopping at first decrease row, then wrap remainder of knitted piece round pipecleaner and continue to oversew side edges together to enclose pipecleaner. Work a gathering thread through every stitch along cast- on edge, draw up tightly and fasten off. Curve stem into shape, then sew top of stem to right hand, holding between thumb, forefinger and middle finger. Sew base of stem to front of right boot. Darn yarn tail remaining at cast- off edge of each leaf down centre on purl side, then arrange and pin leaves, evenly spaced, along stem, starting with large leaves at base, followed by medium leaves, and ending with small leaves at top. Once you are satisfied with the positioning of the leaves, use the remaining yarn ends to sew each leaf securely in place and remove pins. Finally, position and sew Jack’s hands and feet to the beanstalk stem.
