TENSION

Yarn used knits as lace to this tension: 15 sts and 24 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over garter st using 6mm needles and yarn held double

ABBREVIATI­ONS

Note Yarn is doubled throughout. It is easier to use two separate balls. Cast on 74 ( 80: 86: 92) sts using 5 mm needles and 2 strands of Yarn A held double. Work in garter st throughout (knit every row). Knit 10 rows. Change to 6mm needles. Cont in garter st until work measures 13cm.

Using 1 strand of Yarn A and 1 strand of Yarn B held double, cont in garter st until work measures 26cm.

Using 2 strands of Yarn B held double, cont in garter st until work measures 39cm.

Using 1 strand of Yarn B and 1 strand of Yarn C held double cont in garter st until work measures 52cm.

Using 2 strands of Yarn C held double, cont in garter st until work measures 66 ( 67: 68: 69) cm.

SHAPE NECK

Patt across 28 ( 31: 34: 37) sts, sl the next st, turn and work on these 29 ( 32: 35: 38) sts for left Front, leaving rem sts on a holder. Next row Sl the first st, pass it over the 2nd st on needle to cast off, cast off 1 more st, patt to end. [2 sts dec'd] Next row Patt to the last st, sl this st and turn. Rep the last 2 rows twice more. [23 ( 26: 29: 32) sts] Cast off.

Rejoin yarn to sts left on holder, leaving a long tail for neatening the neck edge later. Cast off 16 sts, patt to end. Next row Patt to the last st, sl this st and turn. Next row Sl the first st, pass it over the 2nd st on needle to cast off, cast off 1 more st, patt to end. Rep the last 2 rows twice more. 23 ( 26: 29: 32) sts Cast off.

FRONT

Work same as Back until 2 rows less have been worked to Shape Neck, ending on a WS row.

SHAPE NECK

Patt across 30 ( 33: 36: 39) sts, sl the next st, turn and work on these 31 ( 34: 37: 40) sts for left front. Next row Sl the first st, pass it over the 2nd st on needle to cast off, cast off 1 more st, patt to end. [2 sts dec'd] Next row Patt to the last st, sl this st and turn. Rep the last 2 rows 3 times more. [23 ( 26: 29: 32) sts] Cast off.

Rejoin yarn to sts left on spare needle, leaving a long tail for neatening the Neck edge later. Cast off 12 sts, patt to end. Next row Patt to the last st, sl this st and turn. Next row Sl the first st, pass it over the 2nd st on needle to cast off, cast off 1 more st, patt to end. [2 sts dec'd]

Rep the last 2 rows 3 times more. [23 ( 26: 29: 32) sts] Cast off.

SLEEVES

STRIPE SEQUENCE 2 strands of A held together for 9cm. 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B held together for 9cm.

2 strands of B held together for 13cm. 1 strand of B and 1 strand of C held together for 9cm. 2 strands of A held together until sleeve top.

Cast on 40 ( 42: 44: 46) sts using 5 mm needles and 2 strands of Yarn A. K 1 row.

SHAPE SIDES

Next row Inc 1 st at each end of the next row. [2 sts dec'd] Patt 11 rows. Rep the last 12 rows until there are 56 ( 58: 60: 62) sts. Cont without shaping until sleeve measures 48 ( 49: 49: 50) cm.

Cast off all sts.

TO MAKE UP

Block gently to measuremen­ts, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band. Use long tail left at neckline to neaten edge as follows. Bring yarn to the front of work and sew through the cast off st at beg of neck shaping to make a mock cast off st. Fold sleeves in half vertically and, placing fold at shoulder seam, sew in place. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in yarn ends.
