YOU WILL NEED

TENSION

Yarn used knits as aran to this tension: 16 sts and 27 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over pattern using 5mm needles

Cafetière approx 18cm tall, 31cm circumfere­nce Mug approx 10cm tall, 26cm circumfere­nce

ABBREVIATI­ONS

Twist K2tog, leave sts on left-hand needle, knit first st again, slip 2 sts off left-hand needle For a full list see page 95 in the main magazine Knit a lovely set of cosies for your precious cafetière and mugs. Going for cables is clever as not only will they look great, the extra yarn used gives your cosies extra insulation! One ball of yarn is enough for several pieces, so you could make a whole set so everyone’s mug matches – or if you’re feeling generous, this would be a fabulous gift for your knitting group!

CAFETIÈRE COSY

Cast on 50 sts using 5mm needles. Row 1 (RS) K2, *K2, P2; rep from * to last 4 sts, K4. Row 2 K2, *P2, K2; rep from * to the end.

Row 3 K2, *Twist, P2; rep from * to last 4 sts, Twist, K2.

Row 4 K2, *P2, K2; rep from * to the end. Rep last 4 rows until work from beg measures approx 18cm, ending on a row 3. Cast off.

BUTTON TABS

(MAKE 3) Cast on 11 sts using 5mm needles. Row 1 ( WS) Knit. Row 2 (Buttonhole row) K2, yo, k2tog, knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, yo, K2. Knit 2 rows. Cast off.

TO FINISH

Place markers for 3 button tabs: 1st at top, 2nd at bottom and last spaced evenly between. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonhole­s.

MUG COSY LEFT FRONT AND BACK

Cast on 30 sts using 5mm needles. Work in patt as given for Cafetière Cosy until work measures approx 10cm from beg, ending on a row 4. Cast off.

RIGHT FRONT

Cast on 14 sts using 5mm needles. Work in patt as given for Cafetière Cosy until work from beg measures approx 10cm, ending on a row 4. Cast off.

TO MAKE UP

Sew Left Front/Back and Right Front together, and secure with 3 buttons spaced evenly along the seam.

TIES

(MAKE 6) Using a 5mm crochet hook, ch12. Fasten off. Sew one tie to each corner of the Back. Sew a third tie spaced evenly between the two other ties. Repeat for the Right Front. Tie the front and back ties together in bows with enough slack to adjust for differentl­y- sized mugs.
