The only thing our wardrobe lacks at the start of winter is a brand new warm hat and scarf set. Thankfully, Helen Ardley has come to the rescue with her squishy scarf and sophisticated beret offering, all worked in decadent Rowan Cocoon yarn. Quick to knit, you’ll be finished in no time!
SCARF
Cast on 34 sts using 7mm needles and Yarn A. Row 1 K3, *yo, skpo, K2; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, skpo, K1. Row 2 P3, *yo, p2tog, P2; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, p2tog, P1. These 2 rows form the patt. Rep the last 2 rows 3 more times. Change to Yarn B. Work 2 rows in patt as set. Change to Yarn C. Work 8 rows in patt as set. Change to Yarn B. Work 2 rows in patt as set. These 20 rows form the stripe patt. Cont in patt until scarf measures 164cm ending with Yarn A. Cast off. Sew in all loose ends. Block carefully, following any instructions on the ball band.
HAT
Cast on 70 sts using Yarn A and 6mm needles. Row 1 K2, *P2, K2; rep from * to end. Row 2 P2, *K2, P2; rep from * to end. These 2 rows form rib patt. Work a further 5 rows in rib. Next row Rib 2, M1, *rib 6, M1; rep from * to last 2 sts, rib 2. [82 sts] Change to 7mm needles and Yarn B. Next row K3, *yo, skpo, K2; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, skpo, K1. Next row P3, *yo, p2tog, P2; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, p2tog, P1. These 2 rows form patt. Change to Yarn C. Work 8 rows in patt as set. Change to Yarn B. Work 2 rows in patt as set. Change to Yarn A. Work 8 rows in patt as set. Change to Yarn B. Work 2 rows in patt as set. Change to Yarn C. Work 2 rows in patt as set.
Next row K1, *skpo, yo, skpo; rep from * to last st, K1. [62 sts] Next row P2tog across row. [31 sts] Next row *Skpo; rep from * to last st, K1. [16 sts] Next row P2tog across row. [8 sts] Break yarn and thread through remaining sts and secure. Sew back seam. Sew in all loose ends. Block carefully, following any instructions on the ball band.
