Roll-neck poncho

Walks in the country are no match for this trendy poncho, complete with snuggly roll neck.

A winter staple you’ll knit, wear and love.

We’re sure that once you’ve knitted this double moss stitch poncho, you’ll never want to take it off. We’re not kidding – not only is the yarn super soft, luxurious and a beautiful colour, it’s also uber fashionabl­e and goes with absolutely everything!

BACK

Cast on 202 ( 230: 250) sts using 3 mm needles. Row 1 (RS) K8, *P2, K2, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6. Row 2 K6, P2, *K2, P2, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6. Row 3 K6, P2, *K2, P2, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6. Row 4 K8, *P2, K2, rep from * to last 6 sts, K6. These 4 rows set pattern – 6 sts in g st at each end of rows with all other sts in double moss st patt.** Cont as now set until Back meas 62 ( 66: 70) cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS

Rows 1 and 2 (RS) Patt to last 3 ( 4: 4) sts, w&t. Rows 3 and 4 Patt to last 6 ( 8: 8) sts, w&t. Rows 5 and 6 Patt to last 9 ( 12: 12) sts, w&t. Rows 7 and 8 Patt to last 12 ( 16: 16) sts, w&t. Cont in this way, working 3 ( 4: 4) less sts on every pair of rows before wrapping next st and turning, until the foll WS row has been worked: Next row ( WS) Patt to last 30 ( 76: 40) sts, w&t. Now working 4 ( 5: 5) less sts on every pair of rows before w& t, cont until the foll WS row has been worked: Next row ( WS) Patt to last 78 ( 91: 100) sts, w& t.

Next row (RS) Patt to end. This completes shoulder shaping. Now working all sts in g st, cont as folls: Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE BACK NECK

Next row (RS) K82 ( 95: 104) and turn, leaving rem sts on a holder. Work each side of neck separately. Dec 1 st at neck edge of next 4 rows. [78 ( 91: 100) sts] Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row. Break yarn and leave these 78 ( 91: 100) sts on a holder (for right shoulder seam). With RS facing, slip centre 38 ( 40: 42) sts onto another holder (for collar), rejoin yarn and K to end. Dec 1 st at neck edge of next 4 rows. [78 ( 91: 100) sts] Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row. Break yarn and leave these 78 ( 91: 100) sts on another holder (for left shoulder seam).

FRONT

Work as given for Back to **. Cont as now set until Front meas 17cm, ending with RS facing for next row. Next row (buttonhole row) (RS) K2, K2tog, yo (to make first buttonhole of this pair of buttonhole­s), patt to last 4 sts, yo, skpo (to make second buttonhole of this pair of buttonhole­s), K2. Cont straight until Front meas 29.5 ( 30: 30.5) cm, ending with RS facing for next row. Rep buttonhole row once more – second pair of buttonhole­s completed. Cont straight until Front meas 42 ( 43: 44) cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Rep buttonhole row once more – third pair of buttonhole­s completed. Cont straight until Front matches Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Now working all sts in g st, cont as folls: Work 6 rows, dec 1 st at neck edge of 3rd of these rows and ending with RS facing for next row. Join left shoulder seam as foll: Holding RS of Front against RS of Back, join left shoulder seam by casting off all sts together, taking one st from Back with correspond­ing st from Front. With RS facing, slip centre 16 sts onto another holder (for Collar), rejoin yarn, patt 63 ( 75: 93) sts, w& t. Complete to match first side, reversing shapings. Join right shoulder seam.

COLLAR

With RS facing and using 3mm circular needle, pick up and knit 25 ( 28: 31) sts down left side of front neck, K across 16 sts on front holder, pick up and knit 25 ( 28: 31) sts up right side of front neck, and 5 sts down right side of back neck, K across 38 ( 40: 42) sts on Back holder, then pick up and knit 5 sts up left side of back neck. [114 ( 122: 130) sts] Round 1 (RS) *K1, P1, rep from * to end. Rep last round until collar meas 4cm. Next round *K1, pfb, rep from * to end. [171 ( 183: 195) sts] Next round *K1, P2, rep from * to end. Rep last round until collar measures 8cm. Next round *Kfb, P2, rep from * to end. [228 ( 244: 260) sts] Next round *K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep last round until collar meas 22cm. Cast off in rib.

TO MAKE UP

Attach buttons to side borders making sure they match up with the buttonhole­s. Weave in ends and gently block to measuremen­ts, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.
