Cream aran shrug

Caroline Bawn’s cosy lace shrug is so handy! From walks in the park to meetings with friends, it’s perfect.

-

Style meets comfort with this classic lacy shrug! Knit the main part of the shrug as one piece, in an oblong shape. The wavy border will run along one of the wider edges. The length of the shrug might seem long to start with, but the edges will curve around the body when wearing – making the shrug come up a little shorter. The iconic batwing shape is created by folding each corner of the border edge to match each corner of the straight edge. Then, before joining the shoulder seams, the brioche rib stitch cuffs are added on. The cuffs can be as short or long as you like – it’s up to you!

TO MAKE UP

Lay out the main piece so that the plain edge with cuffs attached is at the top and the border edge is at the bottom, and you have WS facing you. Mark the centre of the top edge. Take corner of one end of the bottomborder edge and fold it upwards so that it meets the top edge, 5 ( 5.5: 6.5) cm away from the centre mark. Repeat with the second corner, to create a 10 ( 11: 13) cm wide opening for back neck. This creates the batwing shape of the shrug. Sew seam down the length of each arm and Cuff. This seam lies on the top of the arms. Block gently to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band.
