We at Simply Knitting love a heart design any day of the week – they’re not just for Valentine’s Day. Cast on this simple knitting set and we’re sure you’ll soon see your orders stacking up. Knitted in 100% acrylic and stocking stitch, it’s as robust and practical as it is adorable.

PINCUSHION

Note Before beginning to knit, wind off a small ball (or bobbin) of Yarn B, and 2 small balls (bobbins) of Yarn A.

BACK

Cast on 23 sts using 3 mm needles and Yarn A. Beginning with a knit row, work in st st for 28 rows. Cast off.

FRONT

Cast on 23 sts using 3 mm needles and Yarn A.

Beg with a knit row, work in st st, and joining in colours as required using the intarsia technique, follow the 28 rows of Chart A. Cast off using Yarn A.

TO MAKE UP

Neaten all ends. Join the Front to the Back on three sides, then turn the work to the right side and stuff firmly. Oversew the final side to close.

NEEDLE ROLL

Note Before beginning to knit, wind off 4 medium balls (or bobbins) and 4 small balls (or bobbins) of Yarn B, and 5

medium balls (or bobbins) and 5 small balls (bobbins) of Yarn A.

Cast on 89 sts using 3¼mm needles and

Yarn B. Knit 5 rows.

Break off Yarn B and join in Yarn A. Beginning with a knit row, work in st st until piece measures 15cm from the beginning, ending on a knit row.

Knit 1 row (marks turn).

*Beginning with a knit row, work Chart A, repeating the heart motif 4 times in total across the row.

Repeat from * 3 more times. [4 rows of 4 hearts].

Cont in Yarn A, knit 3 rows (middle row marks turn). Beg with a purl row, work in st st for 5cm, ending with a purl row. Break off Yarn A and join in Yarn B. Knit 5 rows.

Cast off.

TO MAKE UP

Neaten all ends. Line the main body (from foldline to foldline) with the fabric, using sewing thread to attach the fabric. Fold up the larger of the two flaps over the fabric and pin in place. Using sewing thread, sew a straight line from the fold line to the knit border ( Yarn B) between every 8th row. ( The distances between lines can be adjusted to fit wider/thinner needles, as required.) This can be done by hand or on a sewing machine. Using sewing thread, attach the centre of the ribbon for about 5cm (at 90 " to the edge) to one edge of the roll. Sew the side seams of the two flaps to the sides of the roll.
