TENSION

Yarn used knits as super chunky to this tension: 11 sts and 13 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over st st using 9mm needles

ABBREVIATI­ONS

C3F sl next st onto cn and hold at front of work, K2, K1 from cn C3B sl next 2 sts onto cn and hold at back of work, K1, K2 from cn For a full list see page 95 There’s nothing like 100% cotton yarn to create the ultimate stitch definition. Chloe Webster’s slipped-stitched cushion uses a simple pattern that you’ll easily learn after a few repeats. Knitted in three separate parts: the Front, Back and Bottom Back, it’s simply constructe­d and secured with a trio of chunky buttons.

CUSHION FRONT

(MAKE 1) Cast on 49 sts using 9mm needles. Row 1 ( WS) Purl. Row 2 K1, *K2, sl 1, K1, sl 1, K3; rep from * to end. Row 3 *P3, sl 1, P1, sl 1, P2; rep from * to last st, P1. Row 4 K1, *K2, sl 1, K1, sl 1, K3; rep from * to end. Row 5 *P3, sl 1, P1, sl 1, P2; rep from * to last st, P1. Row 6 K1, *C3B, K1, C3F, K1; rep from * to end. Rows 1 to 6 set pattern. Repeat these 6 rows until work measures 38cm. Cast off.

TOP BACK OF CUSHION

(MAKE 1) Cast on 38 sts using 9mm needles. Row 1 ( WS) Purl. Row 2 Knit. Repeat these 2 rows 12 more times until 26 rows have been worked. ** Knit garter stitch buttonhole band as follows: Row 1 ( WS) Knit. Row 2 K8, *cast off 2 sts, K until there are 8 sts on RH needle; rep from * end.

Row 3 *K8, turn work and cast on 2 sts, turn work; rep from * to last 8 sts, K8. Knit 2 rows. Cast off.

BOTTOM BACK CUSHION

(MAKE 1) Work as for Top Back of Cushion to **. Knit garter st button band as folls: Knit 5 rows. Cast off.

TO MAKE UP

Attach the two halves of the Back at the button and buttonhole band edges, making sure the buttonhole­s are on top. Place the Front and Back together with RS facing and sew around all four edges. Turn out and attach three buttons to the button band to correspond with the buttonhole­s. Weave in ends and gently block to measuremen­ts, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.

Start at the bottom right-hand corner. Read right side rows from right to left and wrong side rows from left to right. A row of squares represents a row of knitting.
