TENSION

Yarn knits as aran to this tension:

19 sts and 25 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over stocking stitch using 4½mm needles

For a full list see page 79 Say hello to your new wardrobe favourite! Knitted in a super-soft mix of wools and polyamide, this cosy cardi is great for lazy Sundays. Thanks to its stylish stitches, it’s also fab for spring walks and parties! It’s all knitted flat and joined together at the end, with the neck picked up and knitted.

BACK

Cast on 89 ( 93: 97: 101: 107: 111: 115: 119) sts using 4mm needles.

Row 1 (RS) K1, *P1, K1; rep from * to end. Row 2 Knit.

These 2 rows set rice stitch.

Work 6 rows more in rice stitch. Change to 4 mm needles and cont in Rice Stitch until work meas 15cm from cast- on edge, after a RS row.

Next row ( WS) K to end, inc 4 ( 4: 6: 6: 6:

6: 6: 6) sts evenly across row.

[93 ( 97: 103: 107: 113: 117: 121: 125) sts] Beg with a K row, cont in st st until work meas 46 ( 46: 47: 47: 48: 48: 49: 49) cm from cast- on edge, ending after a WS row.

Work 4 rows, ending after a WS row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Row 1 (RS) K2, P1, K3, P1, K1, skpo, K to last 10 sts, k2tog, K1, P1, K3, P1, K2.

[2 sts dec’d]

Row 2 P8, P2tog, purl to last 10 sts, P2togtbl, P8. [2 sts dec’d]

Row 3 K2, P1, sl1, K1, yo, K1, pass slipped st over these 3 sts, P1, K1, skpo, K to last 10 sts, k2tog, K1, P1, sl1, K1, yo, K1, pass slipped st over these 3 sts, P1, K2.

[2 sts dec’d]

Row 4 P8, P2tog, purl to last 10 sts, P2togtbl, P8. [2 sts dec’d]

These last 4 rows set armhole shaping and mock cable detail.

Working mock cable detail as set throughout, dec 1 st as set at each end of next 4 ( 4: 4: 4: 0: 0: 0: 0) rows, then on 3( 3: 4: 4: 5: 5: 5: 5) foll alt rows.

Cont without shaping, continuing to work mock cable, until armhole meas 20 ( 20: 21: 21: 22: 22: 23: 23) cm, ending after a WS row.

SHAPE SHOULDER

Next row Cast off 5( 6: 7: 8: 10: 11: 12: 13), K10 ( 11: 11: 12: 15: 16: 16: 17), turn and work on these last 10 ( 11: 11: 12: 15: 16: 16: 17) sts only.

Next row (neck shaping) Cast off 4 sts, P to end. [6 ( 7: 7: 8: 11: 12: 12: 13) sts] Cast off rem sts.

With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, cast off 39 ( 39: 41: 41: 43: 43: 45: 45) sts, K to end.

POCKET LININGS (MAKE 2)

Cast on 21 sts using 5mm needles. Work in rice stitch as set on Back until work meas 12cm from cast- on edge, ending after a WS row.

Leave sts on a holder.

LEFT FRONT

Cast on 50 ( 52: 56: 58: 60: 62: 64: 66) sts using 4mm needles.

Row 1 (RS) *K1, P1; rep from * to last 20 sts, K3, (P1, K1) 6 times, P1, K4.

Row 2 K1, P3, K13, P3, K to end.

Row 3 *K1, P1; rep from * to last 20 sts, sl1, K1, yo, K1, pass slipped st over these 3 sts, (P1, K1) 6 times, P1, sl1, K1, yo, K1, pass slipped st over these 3 sts, K1. Row 4 K1, P3, K13, P3, K to end. These 4 rows set rice stitch and front edging with mock cable.

Work 6 rows more as set.

Change to 4 mm needles and cont as set until work meas 15cm from cast- on edge, ending after a RS row.

SHAPE SHOULDER

Next row Cast off 5( 6: 7: 8: 10: 11: 12: 13) sts, patt to end. Work 1 row.

Next row Cast off 6( 7: 7: 8: 11: 12: 12:

13) sts, patt to end. [21 sts] Leave these 21 sts on a holder.

SLEEVES (BOTH ALIKE)

Cast on 37 ( 37: 39: 39: 41: 41: 43: 43) sts using 4mm needles.

Work 6 rows in rice stitch as set on Back. Change to 4 mm needles and cont in rice stitch until work meas 7 ( 7: 7: 7: 8: 8: 8: 8) cm, ending after a RS row.

Next row ( WS) K to end, inc 2 sts evenly across row.

[39 ( 39: 41: 41: 43: 43: 45: 45) sts]

Beg with a K row and working in st st throughout, inc 1 st at each end of 5th and 6 foll 4th rows, then on every foll 6th row to 71 ( 71: 73: 73: 75: 75: 77: 77) sts. Cont without shaping until Sleeve meas 45 ( 45: 45: 45: 46: 46: 46: 46) cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE SLEEVE TOP

Dec 1 st at each end of next 9 ( 9: 9: 9: 5:

5: 5: 5) rows, then on 3 ( 3: 4: 4: 5: 5: 5: 5) foll alt rows.

[47 ( 47: 47: 47: 55: 55: 57: 57) sts]

Work 1 row straight.

Cast off 5( 5: 5: 5: 6: 6: 6: 6) sts at beg of next 8 rows. [7 ( 7: 7: 7: 7: 7: 9: 9) sts]

Cast off rem sts.

TO MAKE UP

Join shoulder seams.

Place marker at centre- back neck. Using 4 mm needles rejoin yarn to 21 sts at each front neck, cont in patt on these sts until band fits around back neck to marker.

Cast off.

Sew neck edging in place and join cast- off edges.

Join side and Sleeve seams. Matching decreases and easing rem fabric into place, sew in Sleeves.
