Yarn used knits as DK to this tension: 23 sts and 33 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over patt using 4mm needles

BACK

Cast on 53 ( 59: 65: 71) sts using 3 mm needles. Work in garter st for 4 rows, ending with RS facing for next row.

Change to 4mm needles.

Work in patt as folls:

Keeping patt correct, cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. [47 ( 53: 59: 65) sts]

Dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows, then on foll 1 ( 2: 3: 4) alt rows.

Cont straight until armhole meas 4 ( 5: 6: 7) cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

DIVIDE FOR BACK OPENING

Next row (RS) Patt 19 ( 21: 23: 25) sts, turn and work this side first.

SHAPE RIGHT SHOULDER

Cast off 3( 3: 4: 4) sts at beg of next and foll alt row, then 3 ( 4: 3: 4) sts at beg of foll alt row.

Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row. Break yarn and leave rem 10 ( 11: 12: 13) sts on a holder.

With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, k2tog, patt to end.

SHAPE LEFT SHOULDER

Work 3 rows, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE LEFT SHOULDER

Cast off 3( 3: 4: 4) sts at beg of next and foll RS row. Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 3 ( 4: 3: 4) sts.

With RS facing, slip centre 7 ( 9: 9: 11) sts onto a holder, rejoin yarn to rem sts, patt to end.

SHAPE RIGHT SHOULDER

Keeping patt correct, cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. [39 ( 43: 47: 51) sts]

Dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows, then on foll 10 alt rows, then on every row until 11 sts rem, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off rem 11 sts.

TO MAKE UP

Press carefully following instructio­ns on ball band. Join shoulder seams.

NECK BORDER

With RS facing and using 3 mm needles, K 10 ( 11: 12: 13) sts on left Back holder, knit up 14 ( 14: 16: 16) sts down left side of neck, K 7 ( 9: 9: 11) sts on front holder, knit up 14 ( 14: 16: 16) sts up right side of neck, then K 10 ( 11: 12: 13) sts on right Back holder. [55 ( 59: 65: 69) sts]

Work in garter st for 2 rows, ending with WS facing for next row.

Cast off knitwise on WS.

BACK OPENING BORDER

With RS facing and using 3 mm needles, starting and ending at top of Neck Border, knit up 18 sts down right side of back opening, then 18 sts up left side of back opening. [36 sts]

Row 1 ( WS), K16, (k2tog) twice, K16. [34 sts]

Row 2 K1, k2tog, yfwd (to make a buttonhole), K12, (k2tog) twice, K15. Cast off rem 30 sts knitwise on WS.

TO MAKE UP

Join side seams. Join sleeve seams. Insert Sleeves. Sew on button.
