TABLET COVER

-

Note Holding the yarn double creates a lovely dense fabric to help protect your tablet from bumps and scratches. If you haven’t done colourwork before, this easy-to-remember slipstitch and stripe pattern is a great place to start – it looks more complicated than it is! Cast on 56 sts using Yarn A held double and 4mm DPNs or circular needle, and join to work in the round.

Round 1 *K2, P2; rep from * to end.

Rep Round 1 until work measures 4cm. SLIPSTITCH PATTERN Round 1 Using Yarn B *P3, sl 1 wyib; rep from * to end. Round 2 Using Yarn A *P3, K1; rep from * to end. Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 three more times. Round 9 Using Yarn B *P1, sl 1 wyib, P2; rep from * to end. Round 10 Using Yarn A *P1, K1, P2; rep from * to end. Repeat Rounds 9 and 10 three more times. Repeat these 16 rounds until tablet cover measures 26cm or desired length, ending with a Round 8 or 16. Arrange stitches so you have 28 on front needle and 28 on back. Graft stitches together using Kitchener stitch and Yarn B to close the base as follows: 1 Hold the two needles containing the stitches together with wrong sides facing. Your working yarn should be coming from the last stitch on the back needle, to the right of your work. Cut a long tail, leaving enough yarn to graft the stitches together. Thread this tail through a blunt, wide-eyed sewing needle. Insert sewing needle through the first stitch on the front needle, knitwise, and pull it all the way through. Leave the stitch on the knitting needle. 2 Insert sewing needle through the first stitch on the back needle, purlwise, and pull it all the way through. Leave the stitch on the knitting needle.

3 Insert sewing needle through the first stitch on the front needle, purlwise, and pull it all the way through. Remove this stitch from the knitting needle. Insert sewing needle through the next stitch on the front needle, knitwise, and pull it all the way through. Leave this stitch on the knitting needle. 4 Insert sewing needle through the first stitch on the back needle, knitwise, and pull it all the way through. Remove this stitch from the knitting needle. Insert sewing needle through the next stitch on the back needle, purlwise, and pull it all the way through. Leave this stitch on the knitting needle.

5 Repeat Steps 3 to 4 until all stitches have been grafted together, working the last 2 stitches on each needle as 1 stitch (this will prevent a bumpy finish). Gently pull the yarn tail to neaten stitches and weave in end. Block if needed.
