MAKING UP

1 Stuff Head firmly, then stuff Body, taking care not to overstuff.

2 Sew up the seams of both Legs and stuff carefully.

3 Stand Caroline upright onto pale blue felt and draw around each foot to create two felt circles. Sew these onto base of each foot with pale blue cotton thread.

4 Fasten Apricot at the back of her Head and weave needle in and out around neck, pulling and fastening at the back again. Do the same at her waistline.

5 Wrap Bodice around Body with cast-on edge at the neck. Sew the edges together with matching yarn at the front. Sew on two pale buttons.

Press Skirt gently (on iron’s lowest setting), then fit around Body with the cast-on edge at the waist. Pin into place around Body, with the seam at the back. Sew the Skirt up using mattress stitch. Sew the Bodice to the Skirt.

7 Wrap a Sleeve around an Arm, sew up the seam, ensuring Arm is fastened and won’t slide out.

8 Repeat for second Arm. Pin both Arms to side of Bodice and make sure they are level before sewing them in place with same colour yarn.

HAIR

1 Use Buttermilk and a darning needle. Place pins around the face where you would like to see the Hairline.

2 Sew a long loop to the side of her face. Make another loop, but this time pull it until it is a stitch beside the first loop – this way, when you snip the loop the Hair won’t pull out.

3 Repeat this pattern in a row down the side of her face, following the pin outline. Stop before you reach the bottom of her Head.

4 Following the line of stitches you have made, make a second row of loops and sts behind the first until the side of her face looks like the image. Snip the loops.

5 Do the same thing on the other side of her face. 6 Sew long straight sts on the back of her Head to cover the rest of the Apricot.

7 Separate one side of her Hair into 3, ready to plait.

8 Plait the Hair and pin it to the side of her Head. Repeat with the other side.

9 Fasten the plait ends together with same colour yarn then cut off the ends.

10 Add long extension loops by sewing them onto the base of her Hair and placing them over her shoulder.

11 Snip these extension loops and plait them. Trim the ends.

FACE

1 Using the picture as a guide, place pins on Caroline’s face as eyes until you are happy with their position. Do the same for her mouth.

2 Using Midnight, come up through the base of her Head at the back into the position of the first eye pin. Make a downwards stitch and push needle up into the second eye position. Do the same for this eye. Take care to keep the stitches level and not to tighten them.

3 Look at her face and make sure you are happy before sewing back to the starting point at the back of her Head to fasten.

4 Using double-thickness dark pink cotton thread, sew on a mouth.

HAT

Match the cast-on edge of Brim to the base of Hat and sew together. Place Hat at an angle on her Head and fasten. You could keep it unfastened if you’d like to change her look!

NECKLACE

Take a length of black yarn and thread a 4mm gold spacer bead onto it. Attach to the back of her neck with the bead at the front.
