Simply Knitting

The RSPCA needs you…

-

This issue we chat with the RSPCA to learn about their important cause, and how you can get involved and help our vulnerable animal friends...

Why not cast on a cosy little knit and help animals in need? The RSPCA is calling on knitters to put their good skills to use by whipping up leg warmers for sick kittens, snuggly nests for baby hedgehogs and jumpers for chilly dogs. The animal welfare charity, the UK’s oldest and largest, rescues around 120,000 animals every year. Many of those are injured, ill or have su ered unimaginable cruelty at the hands of people. While many of these animals have only known su ering in their lives, as soon as they arrive at the RSPCA’s hospitals and wildlife centres, all they experience is TLC. Now the charity is appealing to other animallovers to help look after these needy animals, help them on the road to recovery and rehome or release them.

KNITTING FOR ANIMALS

Knitting forms an integral part of how the charity can help nurse animals back to health. From knitted jumpers to warm a malnutritioned dog, to knitted nests for hoglets (baby hedgehogs) and rescued birds, the charity would not be able to fulfil its mission without your help. Knit up some little socks for cats and kittens having operations – where the risk of low circulation poses a threat. Every little knit that is kindly donated makes such a di erence, and has vital importance in the clinics. John Wilkins, head of volunteering at the RSPCA says, “The RSPCA uses lots of di erent practices and techniques to help animals recover from injuries and illness. Some are based on science and veterinary practices but sometimes they just need a bit of love, comfort and warmth.”

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

This is where you can help! Many of the clinics use special knitted creations to help orphaned wildlife or poorly pets, and the teams could always use more! So, if you fancy helping out this winter perhaps you could break out the knitting needles and make some of our furry and feathered friends something special. Every knit makes a di erence!
