RED BERET
Note As you decrease for the top of the Beret you may wish to switch to double-pointed needles. Alternatively, use the magic loop technique on your existing circular needles. Work all Chart rounds from right to left.
Cast on 104 sts using 3.25mm needles and the long-tail method, and join to work in the round.
Round 1 (K4tbl, P3, k3tbl, P3) 8 times.
Rep this round 6 more times.
Change to 4mm needles and begin working chart or written instructions as foll:
Round 1 (K4, ssk, K2, yo, K1, yo, K2, k2tog) 8 times. Round 2 and all alt rounds (P4, K9) 8 times.
Round 3 As Round 1.
Round 5 As Round 1.
Round 7 (K4, yo, ssk, K5, k2tog, yo) 8 times.
Round 9 (K5, yo, ssk, K3, k2tog, yo, k1) 8 times.
Round 11 (K6, yo, ssk, K1, k2tog, yo, K2) 8 times.
Round 13 (K7, yo, sk2po, yo, K3) 8 times.
Round 14 (P4, K9) 8 times
Rep Rounds 1 to 14 a further three times.
SHAPE CROWN
Note You may wish to change to 4mm DPNs as the number of stitches decreases.
Round 15 (Ssk, k2tog, ssk, K2, yo, K1, yo, K2, k2tog) 8 times. [88 sts]
Round 16 (P2, K9) 8 times.
Round 17 (K2, ssk, K5, k2tog) 8 times. [72 sts]
Round 18 (P2, K7) 8 times.
Round 19 (K2, ssk, K3, k2tog) 8 times. [56 sts]
Round 20 (P2, K5) 8 times.
Round 21 (K2, ssk, K1, k2tog) 8 times. [40 sts]
Round 22 (P2, K3) 8 times.
Round 23 (K2, sk2po) 8 times. [24 sts]
Round 24 (P2tog, K1) 8 times. [16 sts]
Break yarn, carry through remaining sts and fasten off. Weave in ends. Block gently to open up the lace patterning.
