Round 4 Purl.

Round 5 Knit.

Round 6 Purl.

Rep these 6 rounds to form patt.

SOCKS CUFF

Cast on 52 (60: 68) sts using 2.5mm needles. Join to work in the round, taking care not to twist sts. PM to mark beg of round. Next round *K2, P2; rep from * to end.

Cont in rib a further 9 (11: 15) rounds.

LEG

Work in Squeezebox patt for 54 (60: 66) rounds.

HEEL FLAP

Worked over next 26 (30: 34) sts, turn at end of each row, leaving rem sts on holder or spare needle.

Remove marker and turn work.

Next row (WS) Sl 1, P25 (29: 33), turn.

Next row (RS) *Sl 1, K1; rep from * to end, turn.

Rep these 2 rows another 12 (14: 16) times.

TURN HEEL

Next row (WS) Sl 1, P14 (16: 18), p2tog, P1, turn.

[25 (29: 33) heel sts]

Next row (RS) Sl 1, K5, ssk, K1, turn. [24 (28: 32) heel sts]

Next row (WS) Sl1, purl to 1 st before gap, p2tog, P1, turn.

[1 heel st dec’d]

Next row (RS) Sl1, knit to 1 st before gap, ssk, K1, turn.

[1 heel st dec’d]

Rep last 2 rows until you have worked all the heel sts. Do not turn at end of last row, and beg working in the round again.

[16 (18: 20) heel sts]

GUSSET

Set up round PM for new beg of round, pick up and knit 13 (15: 17) sts down the side of the Heel Flap, PM, work 26 (30: 34) instep sts in Squeezebox patt, PM, pick up and knit 13 (15: 17) up the side of the Heel Flap, knit to end of round. [68 (78: 88) sts]

Dec round Knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, K1, slm, work Squeezebox patt to marker, slm, K1, ssk, knit to end. [2 sts dec’d] Next round Knit to marker, slm, work Squeezebox patt to marker, slm, knit to end.

Rep these 2 rounds until you have 52 (60: 68) sts.

Work straight for another 55 (59: 63) rounds, or until Sock meas 4 (4.5: 5)cm less than desired foot length, and ending after a Round 3 or 6 of Squeezebox patt. If needed, work additional rounds in st st to make sure foot is correct length.

TOE

Dec round Knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, K1, slm, K1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, K1, slm, K1, ssk, knit to end.

[4 sts dec’d]

Next round Knit.

Rep these 2 rounds until you have 20 (24: 28) sts.

FINISHING

Divide sts evenly on 2 needles and graft together using Kitchener stitch (below). Weave in all ends. Block carefully, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.
