Charity St Gemma’s Hospice

What do you do? St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds provides the best possible care and support for local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. We specialise in pain relief and symptom control to help people live as well as possible for as long as possible. St Gemma’s is at the heart of the local community providing care for patients in the Hospice or in their own homes. The hospice would not be able to provide care without the valuable and ongoing support of the community and kind donations.
What can we do to help? St Gemma’s sell handmade knitted gifts at Christmas and Easter. Over the festive period we sell knitted Santa hats or Christmas puddings which are filled with chocolate treats. In the run up to Easter we sell hundreds of knitted chicks, filled with chocolate eggs. In the last financial year this has raised over £9,000 for the hospice, all the money raised goes towards patient care.
Latest fundraising news In the weeks leading up to Easter, we are recruiting knitters to help knit cute little chicks to sell. Each will be filled with a chocolate egg. We have a pattern for the chick that you can download (events. st-gemma.co.uk/events/knit-a-chick/) or contact the hospice and we can send a copy. We always have a variety of colours, some with bobble hats, scarves and some in local sports team colours, each chick is unique and individual. We’d love your help as every penny raised from selling the knitted chicks goes towards the care our patients receive and we are most appreciative of any support!
