KNIT-ALONG BLANKET (PART 3) SQUARE 5 (MAKE 6)

Note A long-tail cast on is recommende­d throughout. There’s a good tutorial here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5YfbpeRAJ­8. Squares are worked separately and joined after all are completed. Numbering squares will make it easier to make up the project. Each square should be blocked to measuremen­ts before attaching the flowers. A pencil can be used to roll up the flowers.

Cast on 33 sts using 4mm knitting needles and Yarn A. Row 1 to 6 Knit.

Row 7 Knit

Row 8 K4, purl to last 4 sts, K4.

Rep above Rows 7 and 8 another sixteen times.

Rows 41 to 46 Knit.

Cast off.

SQUARE 6 (MAKE 6)

Cast on 35 sts using 4mm knitting needles and Yarn A. Rows 1 to 6 Knit.

Commence pattern repeat:

Row 7 K4, *yo, sk2po, yo, K3; rep from * to last st, K1. Row 8 K3, purl to last 3 sts, K3.

Rep Rows 7 and 8 another seventeen times.

Rows 43 to 48 Knit.

Cast off.

FLOWER C FOR SQUARE 5 (MAKE 6)

Make one each in Yarn B, D, E and F, two in Yarn C. Cast on 66 sts using 4mm knitting needles.

Row 1 (RS) Knit.

Rows 2 to 4 Beg with a purl row, st st three rows.

Row 5 K2 *(yo) twice, (k2tog) twice; rep from * to end of row. [66 sts]

Rows 6 Purl, working the yarn overs as two purl sts.

Rows 7 to 9 Beg with a knit row, st st three rows.

Cast off.

LEAVES FOR FLOWER C (MAKE 12)

Cast on 4 sts using 4mm knitting needles and Yarn G. Row 1 (RS) Kfb, K1, kfb, K1. [6 sts]

Rows 2, 4 and 6 Purl.

Row 3 Kfb, K3, kfb, K1. [8 sts]

Row 5 Kfb, K5, kfb, K1. [10 sts]

Row 7 K2tog, K6, k2tog. [8 sts]

Row 8 P2tog, P4, p2tog. [6 sts]

Row 9 K2tog, K2, k2tog. [4 sts]

Row 10 (P2tog) twice. [2 sts]

Row 11 K2tog. [1 st]

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Fold Flower C lengthwise and join the cast-on and cast-off edges together to form the picot edge. Roll the piece, using a pencil to form a flower shape, then sew this securely from the underside. Attach two leaves to the base of each flower. Block squares. Sew each flower with two leaves to a Square 5.
