CHRISTMAS WREATH

Note All pieces are worked flat on straight knitting needles and seamed using mattress stitch, using the long-tail cast-on method throughout.

WREATH COVER

Cast on 30 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn A.

Starting on a RS knit row, work in st st until piece measures 55cm, ending with a WS row.

Break Yarn A and join Yarn B.

Starting on a RS knit row work in st st until piece measures 110cm, ending with a WS row.

Cast off.

GINGERBREA­D HOUSE SIDES (MAKE 2)

Cast on 17 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn C. Rows 1 to 14 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Cast off.

FRONT/BACK (MAKE 2)

Cast on 11 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn C. Rows 1 to 14 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Row 15 Ssk, K to last sts, k2tog. [2 sts dec’d]

Row 16 Purl.

Rep Rows 15 and 16 three more times. [3 sts]

Row 23 Sk2po and fasten off.

FLOOR

Cast on 11 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn C. Rows 1 to 20 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Cast off.

ROOF

Cast on 19 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn A. Rows 1 to 20 Knit.

Cast off.

FRONT EAVES (MAKE 2)

Cast on 14 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn A.

Row 1 (RS) Knit. Cast off.

DOOR

Cast on 7 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn B. Rows 1 to 3 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Cast off.

MINI WREATH

Cast on 13 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn G. Cast off.

SWEETS (MAKE 5, ONE EACH IN YARNS B, E, F, G, AND J)

Cast on 4 sts using 4mm needles.

Rows 1 to 4 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.

CANDY CANE

Cast on 6 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn A.

Work in a two-row striped st st sequence beginning with Yarn A then changing to Yarn J, carrying the yarn up the side of your work. Rows 1 to 22 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st and stripe sequence.

Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.

PAPER CHAINS (MAKE 35, 6 EACH IN YARNS A, B, E, F & J, 5 IN YARN G)

Cast on 6 sts using 4mm needles. Cast off.

STOCKINGS (MAKE 4, ONE EACH IN YARNS B, E, G & J)

Cast on 14 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn B, E, G or J. Rows 1 to 3 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st.

Row 4 Cast off 3 sts, P to end. [11 sts]

Row 5 Cast off 3 sts, K to end. [8 sts]

Rows 6 to 8 Starting on a WS purl row work in st st. Change to Yarn A (for all Stockings).

Rows 9 to 11 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Cast off.

TREE SIDES

Cast on 33 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn G.

Rows 1 to 4 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st.

Row 5 K3, (k2tog, K3) 6 times. [27 sts]

Rows 6 to 8 Starting on a WS purl row work in st st.

Row 9 K3, (k2tog, K2) 6 times. [21 sts]

Rows 10 to 12 Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st. Row 13 K3, (k2tog, K1) 6 times. [15 sts]

Rows 14 to 18 Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st. Row 19 K3, (k2tog) 6 times. [9 sts]

Rows 20 to 22 Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st. Row 23 K1, (k2tog) 4 times. [5 sts]

Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.

BASE

Cast on 9 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn G. Row 1 (RS) K1, (kfb) 8 times. [17 sts]

Row 2 Purl.

Row 3 K1, (kfb, K1) 8 times. [25 sts]

Row 4 Purl.

Row 5 K1, (kfb, K2) 8 times. [33 sts]

Cast off.

TRUNK

Cast on 8 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn H. Rows 1 to 4 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st. Cast off.

HOLLY LEAVES (MAKE 4)

Cast on 16 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn G.

Rows 1 and 2 Starting on a RS knit row, work in st st.

Row 3 (Eyelet row) K1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last st, K1. Rows 4 and 5 Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st. Cast off.

BERRIES (MAKE 2)

Using Yarn J work as given for Sweets.

REINDEER BODY

Cast on 8 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn H.

Row 1 (RS) (Kfb) 8 times. [16 sts]

Rows 2 to 14 Starting on a WS purl row work in st st. Rows 15 (K2tog) 8 times. [8 sts]

Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.

HEAD

Cast on 7 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn H. Row 1 (RS) (Kfb) 7 times. [14 sts]

Rows 2 to 10 Starting on a WS purl row work in st st. Row 11 (K2tog) 7 times. [7 sts] Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.

LEGS (MAKE 4)

Cast on 5 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn H.

Rows 1 to 10 Starting on a RS knit row work in st st.

Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.

ANTLERS (MAKE 2)

Cast on 7 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn D.

Row 1 Knit.

Row 2 Cast off 2 sts, return st from RH needle to LH needle, cast on 3 sts. [8 sts]

Cast off all sts.

EARS (MAKE 2)

Cast on 3 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn H. Row 1 (RS) Knit.

Row 2 Purl.

Row 3 Sk2po and fasten off.

DECORATIVE TRIM BOTTOM TRIM SECTION

Cast on 5 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn J. Work in garter st until piece measures 200cm. Cast off.

TOP TRIM SECTION

Cast on 5 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn J. Work in garter st until piece measures 20cm. Cast off.

BOW

Cast on 7 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn J. Work in garter st until piece measures 45cm. Cast off.

HANGING TAG

Cast on 5 sts using 4mm needles and Yarn J. Work in garter st until piece measures 20cm. Cast off.

FINISHING

Note Pin each item to the Wreath before sewing or glueing to get the placement correct.

Use the photograph­s as a guide throughout.

Place the Cover over the polystyren­e wreath and sew the row edges together at the back so the seam will not show. Wrap the Bottom Trim Section around the bottom white section and sew or glue into place. The Top Trim Section is sewn to the top middle section around the Wreath, tie the Bow and attach this to the middle of the trim. Fold the Hanging Tag in half and sew this to the back of the Wreath at the top.

GINGERBREA­D HOUSE

1 Sew the Floor to the Front, Back and Sides of the house. 2 Cut out cardboard to match the Floor, Front, Back and Sides of the house. Place card pieces inside and stuff.

3 Place Roof on the top of the House and secure in place with a few stitches. Sew the Front Eaves to the front of the House.

4 The Sweets for the top of the roof are made by gathering up the fasten-off end and sewing around the row edges and cast-on edge, pulling tight to make a round shape. Sew or glue these to the top of the House.

5 Sew the Door to the front of the House. 6 The Mini wreath is made by sewing the cast-on and cast-off edges together to make a circle. Thread a length of Yarn J around the wreath and tie in a bow. Attach this to just above the Door.

7 The Candy Cane is made by gathering up the fastened-off end and sewing down the row edges to form the Candy Cane. Bend the Candy Cane around the Door and sew or glue into place.

8 Place the House in the middle open section of the wreath and glue or sew into place.

REINDEER

The Reindeer’s Head and Body are made up in the same way.

1 Gather up the cast-on sts and sew up the row edges as far as the fastened-off end on the wrong side. Turn RS out and stuff, gather up fastened-off end and secure.

2 Sew the Head to the Body. Sew the Ears to the top of the Head.

3 Embroider a face on the Reindeer using Yarn J for the nose and black yarn for the eyes. Sew Antlers to the top of the Head.

4 The Legs are made by gathering up fastened-off end and sewing down the row edges to the cast-on edge on the RS. Sew the Legs to the reindeer.

5 Place the Reindeer beside the Gingerbrea­d House and glue or sew into place.

TREE

1 The Sides of the Tree are made by gathering up the fastened-off end and sewing down the row edges to the cast-on edge to form a cone shape. Add stuffing.

2 The Base of the tree is made by gathering up the cast-on stitches and sewing down the row edges to the cast-off edge to form a circle. Place this to the bottom of the tree and sew into place.

3 Using Yarns A, B, E, F and J, embroider baubles on the Tree.

4 Fold the Trunk in half and sew the row edges together, place this at the bottom of the Tree in the middle. Place the Tree the other side of the Gingerbrea­d House and sew or glue into place.

PAPERCHAIN­S, HOLLY LEAVES AND STOCKINGS

1 Join the row ends of the Paperchain­s to make a circle, place the next chain through the circle and sew. Continue until all chains have been linked.

2 The holly leaves are both made the same way. Sew the cast-on and cast-off edges together to make a picot edge. Fold this in half and sew the down the middle to form a leaf shape.

3 The Berries are made in the same way as the Sweets.

4 The Stockings are made by folding in half and sewing on the WS leaving the top open, turn RS out and sew to the Paperchain­s.

5 Sew or glue the Paperchain­s to the top section of the wreath.

6 Place the Holly Leaves and Berries at each end and glue or sew these to the wreath.
