CHRISTMAS BUNTING
Note Unless otherwise specified, use a cable cast on for all pieces, and mattress stitch to sew the seams together.
TROUSERS
Cast on 12 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn B.
RIGHT LEG
Row 1 (RS) Purl.
Break Yarn B and join Yarn A.
Rows 2 to 10 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st.
Break Yarn A and slide the sts to the end of the needle (not the pointy end!) to hold them to work later.
LEFT LEG
On the same needle that is holding the right leg sts cast on 12 sts in Yarn B for the left leg.
Rep Rows 1 to 10 for the ‘right leg’ but don’t break Yarn A; you should have 2 legs on the same needle.
SEAT
Rows 1 to 10 Beg on a RS knit row work across both legs in st st. [24 sts]
Cast off.
Sew the side edges of the legs tog and the side edges of the seat at the back.
BRACES (MAKE 2)
With Yarn C pick up and knit 2 sts on the back waistband of the Trousers.
Rows 1 to 20 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st.
Cast off.
Sew the cast-off end onto the front waistband of the Trousers and weave in ends.
JACKET
Cast on 12 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn B.
RIGHT SLEEVE
Row 1 (RS) Purl.
Break Yarn B and join Yarn A.
Rows 2 to 9 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st.
Row 10 Cast on 8 sts at start of row using cable cast on, P to end. [20 sts]
Row 11 Cast on 8 sts at start of row using cable cast on, K to end. [28 sts]
Rows 12 to 16 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st.
RIGHT FRONT
Row 17 K14, turn leaving the last 14 sts unworked for the back. Row 18 P14.
Break Yarn A and join Yarn B.
Row 19 K14, turn leaving the last 14 sts unworked for the back.
Row 20 K14. Cast off 14 sts.
BACK
Rejoin Yarn A and work the held sts starting with the RS facing you. Rows 1 to 8 Beg on a RS knit row work in st st. [14 sts]
Break Yarn A and slide the sts to the wrong end of the needle (not the pointy end!) to hold them to work later.
LEFT FRONT
Onto the same needle that is holding the back stitches cast on 14 sts in Yarn B.
Row 1 (RS) Purl. [14 sts]
Row 2 Knit.
Break Yarn B and join Yarn A.
Rows 3 and 4 Beg on a RS knit row work in st st.
Row 5 You should have 2 sets of sts for the back and front on the same needle; slide the sts tog and K to end to join the front and back. [28 sts]
Rows 6 to 9 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st.
Row 10 Cast off the first 8 sts in purl, P to end. [20 sts]
Row 11 Cast off the first 8 sts, K to end. [12 sts]
LEFT SLEEVE
Rows 12 to 19 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st. Break Yarn A and join Yarn B.
Rows 20 to 21 Purl.
Cast off.
Sew seams under arm and down each side.
BOTTOM TRIM
Pick up and knit 32 sts around bottom edge in Yarn B. Rows 1 to 4 Knit.
Cast off.
COLLAR
Pick up and knit 14 sts around top edge in Yarn B. Rows 1 and 2 Knit.
Cast off.
BELT
Cast on 3 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn C. Rows 1 to 40 Beg on a RS knit row work in st st. Cast off.
HAT
Cast on 25 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn B. Rows 1 and 2 Knit.
Break Yarn B and join Yarn A.
Rows 3 and 4 Beg on a RS knit row work in st st. Row 5 K1, (k2tog, K6) 3 times. [22 sts]
Row 6 Purl.
Row 7 K1, (k2tog, K5) 3 times. [19 sts]
Row 8 Purl.
Row 9 K1, (k2tog, K4) 3 times. [16 sts]
Row 10 Purl.
Row 11 K1, (k2tog, K3) 3 times. [13 sts]
Row 12 Purl.
Row 13 K1, (k2tog, K2) 3 times. [10 sts]

Cast on 22 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn A.
Break Yarn A and join Yarn B.
Rows 1 to 5 Beg on a RS knit row work in st st.
Row 6 Cast off the first 4 sts in purl, P to the last 11 sts, cast off the next 4 sts in purl, P to end; you should have 2 sets of 7 sts for the crotch. [14 sts]
Row 7 Ssk, K3, k2tog, turn leaving the last 7 sts unworked. [12 sts] Row 8 P5.
Row 9 K5, turn leaving the last 7 sts unworked.
Row 10 P5.
Cast off the 5 sts and break Yarn B. [ 7 sts]
Rejoin Yarn B on the held 7 sts starting with the RS facing you.
Row 1 Ssk, K3, k2tog. [5 sts]
Rows 2 to 4 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st.
Cast off.
JUMPER BODY
Cast on 12 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn B. Rows 1 and 2 (K1, P1) to end.
Drop Yarn B and join Yarn A.

MITTENS (MAKE 2)
Cast on 12 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn C. Rows 1 and 2 (K1, P1) to end.
Row 3 K5, kfb, kfb, K5. [14 sts]
Row 4 Purl.
Row 5 K5, kfb, K2, kfb, K5. [16 sts]
MITTEN PALM
Row 6 P5, place next 6 sts on a stitch holder, P5. [10 sts] Rows 7 to 9 Beg on a RS knit row work in st st.
Row 10 (P2tog) 5 times. [5 sts]
Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
MITTEN THUMB
With the WS facing you place the 6 sts from the stitch holder onto the needle.
Row 1 Purl.
Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
SOCKS (MAKE 2)
Cast on 12 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn B.
Rows 1 and 2 (K1, P1) to end.
Rows 3 to 6 Beg on a RS knit row work in st st.
Row 7 K8 w&t, P4 w&t, K3 w&t, P2 w&t, K to end.
Rows 8 to 14 Beg on a WS purl row work in st st.
Row 15 (K2tog) 6 times. [6 sts]
Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
FINISHING
Trousers Sew on the four 3mm buttons over the ends of the braces.
Jacket Weave in ends to finish jacket.
Belt Wrap around the coat so the ends overlap at the front and sew together using a length of yellow yarn to embroider a rectangle for the belt buckle. Sew the belt onto the side edges of the coat so that it doesn’t fall off.
Hat Sew the side edges together and weave in ends. Tie a length of Yarn A around the last Yarn A row at the top of the hat, knot firmly to make a bobble at the top, and hide the yarn ends inside the hat. Underpants Sew the cast-off edges together at the crotch. Sew the side edges of Rows 1 to 5 together. Weave in ends. Embroider the upside-down Y shape on the front in Yarn A.
Jumper Sew seams under arms and down sides. Weave in ends. Mittens Sew seams on side edge and thumb and weave in ends. Tie the two mittens tog with a length of Yarn C.
Socks Sew side edges tog and weave in ends.
Washing line Cut a length of Yarn B for your washing line to the required length, and peg on the clothes.
