Size:

Width x length (approximat­ely, at widest point): 170 x 65 cm Materials:

Rico, Creative Wool Dégradé Super 6.

Content: 70% polyacryl, 30% wool. 200 g = 800 m.

2 balls col 012 orange-green Needles: size 3 mm

Tension:

20 sts and 33 rows to 10 cm, over rows of pattern on 3 mm needles or the size required to give the correct tension.

Check your tension – if less stitches use thinner needles, if more use thicker needles.

Note: Weigh ball before starting.

Using 3 mm needles, and thumb method cast on 6 sts.

Row 1. p6.

Row 2. k6.

Row 3. p5, m1p, p1. 7 sts.

Row 4. k7.

Row 5. k6, m1k, k1. 8 sts.

Row 6. p8.

Row 7. k7, m1k, k1. 9 sts.

Row 8. p9.

Row 9. p7, k1, m1k, k1. 10 sts. Row 10. p3, k7.

Row 11. p7, k2, m1p, p1. 11 sts. Row 12. k2, p2, k7.

Row 13. k10, m1k, k1. 12 sts.

Row 14. p12.

Row 15. k11, m1k, k1. 13 sts.

Row 16. p13.

Now cont in patt as follows and inc 1 st (m1k or m1p, according to patt, before last st) in every RS row:

Row 1. * p7, k2; rep from * to last st, m1k/m1p according to patt, patt1. Row 2. * p2, k7; rep from * to end. Row 3. * p7, k2; rep from * to last st, m1k/m1p according to patt, patt1. Row 4. * p2, k7; rep from * to end. Row 5. Knit to last st, m1k, k1.

Row 6. Purl.

Row 7. Knit to last st, m1k, k1.

Row 8. Purl.

The last 8 rows set pattern. Cont in patt with inc sts as set until half the yarn has been used up, then reverse shaping, i.e. patt to last 3 sts, patt2tog, patt1 in every RS row until 6 sts remain.

Next row. Purl.

Cast off knitwise.

Finishing

Weave in any loose ends. Cover with clean, damp tea towels and leave until dry.

Make tassels of approximat­ely 7,5 cm in length, in the appropriat­e colours, and sew to the shawl matching colours as shown in the photo.

Wow! What a gorgeous shawl! Thanks, not least, to this amazing yarn. It is a to-die-for wool blend with a wonderful gradient effect. The yarn colour changes very gradually from one end of the ball to the other, which makes for subtle colour changes in the finished product. The pretty structured pattern and fine fringing are lovely details. • •
