Next row (WS): Selvage st, p1, * k2, p2; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2, p1, selvage st. Cont in rib patt as establishe­d until piece meas 5 cm from cast-on, increasing 6 (4) sts evenly across last WS row = 104 (110) sts.

Change to size 5 mm needles. Work in st st for 4 rows, ending with a WS row. Work rows 1 – 10 of lace insert chart, positionin­g sts as foll: Work

first chart st [= selvage st], skip next 3 (0) sts, work 10 (13) sts to first arrow, work patt rep between arrows 9 times, work 2 (5) sts after 2nd arrow, work last chart st [= selvage st].

Work in St st until piece meas 37 (39) cm from cast-on. Place marker at each edge to indicate beg of armholes. Work even until armhole meas 14 (15) cm, ending with a WS row.

Shape shoulders and neck: At each shoulder edge, bind off 12 (13) sts 1 time, 11 (12) sts 2 times. At same time, when piece meas 1 cm from beg of shoulder shaping, shape neck as foll:

Next row (RS): Bind off center 34 sts. Working each side separately, bind off 1 st at each neck edge 1 time. No sts rem.

Front

Work same as back until armhole meas 11 (12) cm, ending with a WS row.

Shape neck: Next row (RS): Bind off center 12 sts. Working each side separately, bind off 5 sts at each neck edge 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times.

At same time, when armhole meas 14 (15) cm, shape shoulders same as for back. No sts rem.

Sleeves: With size 5 mm needles and 1 strand of each yarn held tog cast on 42 (46) sts.

Next row (WS): Selvage st, p1, * k2, p2; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2, p1, selvage st. Cont in rib patt as establishe­d until piece meas 34 cm from cast-on, increasing 2 sts evenly across last WS row = 44 (48) sts. Work in St st for 4 rows. Work rows 1 – 10 of lace insert chart, positionin­g sts as foll: Work first chart st [= selvage st], skip next 3 (1) st(s), work 10 (12) sts to first arrow, work patt rep between arrows 3 times, work 2 (4) sts after 2nd arrow, work last chart st [= selvage st]. Work in St st for 2 rows. Loosely bind off all sts.

Finishing

Pin pieces to measuremen­ts and block. Sew shoulder seams. Neckband: With size 4 mm crochet hook and 1 strand of each yarn held tog, work 1 rnd of 86 dc around neck edge. With size 5 mm circular needle and 1 strand of each yarn held tog, pick up and k 1 st for each dc = 86 sts. Join for working in rnds. Work st st in rnds for 10 cm. Loosely bind off all sts. Fold neckband in half to WS and sew down. Sew on sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.
