Tension:

Pattern II, 3 mm needles: 20 sts = 10 cm wide. 34 rows = 10 cm high.

Pattern I: 2 mm needles: 1 edge st, *p1, k2, p1*, rep from * to *, ending with 1 edge st. On the foll rows knit the sts as they face you (= p2, k2).

Pattern II: 3 mm needles: stocking st = RS k, WS p.

Back

Cast on 182 (196) sts with 2 mm needles. Knit in pattern I. After 3 cm work in pattern II, dec 44 (46) sts evenly over the first row = 138 (150) sts.

Armholes: At 34 (32) cm, measured hanging, cast off 8 sts at each end of the row, then on every other row cast off 4 sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once and dec 1 st 6 times, then dec 1 st at each end of every 4th row 3 times = 86 (98) sts. At 49 cm inc 1 st at each end of the row once, then once more after 6 rows, every 4th row 3 times and every other row 3 times, then cast on 2 sts at each end of every other row twice = 110 (122) sts.

Shoulders: When the armhole measures 23 (25) cm cast off alt (2 sts once + 1 st once) at each end of every other row 10 (12) times. Cast off another 2 sts twice (2 sts once) = a total of 34 (38) sts each side. Neck: At the same time, at 68 cm from cast on, cast off the middle 36 (40) sts, then either side, at neck edge cast off 2 sts once and 1 st once on alt rows.

Front

Knit as for back.

Neck: At 61 (63) cm cast off the middle 18 (22) sts, then either side, at neck edge cast off 3 sts once and 2 sts twice and dec 1 st 4 times on alt rows, then dec 1 st once after 4 more rows. Shape shoulders to match the back.

Hood

Cast on 186 (196) sts with 3 mm needles. Knit in pattern I. After 3 cm work in pattern II, dec 46 (48) sts evenly over the first row = 140 (148) sts. At a length of 20 cm cast off at each end of every other row: 9 sts 6 times (9 sts twice + 10 sts 4 times). Keep knitting straight on the rem 32 sts. Loosely cast off sts when hood measures 50 (52) cm.

Finishing

On the front for the pocket, pick up the middle 66 sts, 5 cm above the cast on edge with 4 mm needles and knit in pattern II. For pocket opening, after 7 cm cast off 2 sts at each end of every other row 3 times and dec 1 st 5 times, then dec 1 st every 4th row twice and after 6 rows once = 38 sts. Loosely cast off all sts when the pocket measures 21 cm. With 3 mm needles pick up 36 sts around each of the curved pocket openings. Knit in pattern I, beginning the first row (WS) with 1 edge st, p2, k2 and ending in reverse. Loosely cast off all sts when the edging measures 3 cm. Sew upper edge and sides of pocket to the front. Close seams. Sew hood to neckline, overlapping the border a little at centre front. Armhole edging: With the circular needle pick up 136 sts around each armhole. Knit pattern I in the rnd (= p2, k2). After about 3 cm cast off all sts loosely, in pattern.

Design: Langyarns
