Tell us about Countess Ablaze...

We love yarns that make a statement. Bold, vibrant colourways that can’t be ignored. Countess Ablaze yarns are proud to stand out from the crowd, and we take inspiration from counterculture, music and fashion. We are based in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, where we have our studio and shop. We’re one of the few shops with a focus on accessibility and are constantly working to make the business more ethical and sustainable.

What can knitters find at your shop?

Hand-dyed yarns all the way from laceweight to super chunky. We love using British breeds of sheep, and our signature sock base Lady Persephone is a Bluefaced Leicester and nylon mix. Our Rebel Batch collections are themed groups of one-o colourways over a variety of our favourite bases, as well as our repeatable colourways. We also stock spinning fibre, and wool and plant-based yarns from guest brands with a focus on renewable resources.

What will be your highlights for 2021?

Renewing our love for dyeing spinning fibre, as well as moving into handdyed silk embroidery thread. We’re also excited to have become a certified carbon neutral business, and have joined the 1% for the Planet network. Our latest project is a video hub of fresh content such as info on how to dye yarn.
