Rib: Knit (k) 1, purl (p) 1

Stocking stitch: k on right side (RS), p on wrong side (WS).

Decrease: At right-hand side of the work: 1 edge stitch, * p1, k1 *, repeat from * to * twice, p1, sl 1, k1, psso (= slip 1 stitch, k1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch). At the left-hand side of the work: k2tog (knit 2 together knitwise) * p1, k1 *, repeat from * to * twice, p1, 1 edge stitch.

Increase: At right-hand side of work: 1 edge stitch, * p1, k1 *, repeat from * to * twice, increase 1 st purlwise in the loop between the stitches. At the left-hand side of the work: Increase 1 st purlwise in the loop between the stitches, * p1, k1 *, repeat from * to * twice, p1, 1 edge stitch.

The slipover is knitted up from the bottom, up over the shoulders and down.

Start with the back

Using needles size 4 mm, cast on 47 (51) 55 sts and work 2.5 cm rib. Start on a WS row, as follows: Next row (WS): 1 edge stitch, k1, p1 - and end row in reverse. Now divide the stitches as follows: 1 edge stitch, * p1, k1 * and repeat from * to * twice, p1, 35 (39) 43 sts in stocking stitch, * p1, k1 * and repeat from * to * twice and end the row: p1, 1 edge stitch.

Armhole shaping: When the work measures 9,5 (10,5) 11,5 cm, decrease 1 on both sides for the armhole (see “Decrease” instructions above). Repeat these decreases on alternate rows 5 times more = 35 (39) 43 sts. When the work measures 19 (21) 23 cm, set the middle 11 (13) 15 sts on a stitch holder (neckline). Now work each side separately.

Shoulder shaping (back): On alternate rows, cast off 3x 1 st = 9 (10) 11 sts. Continue (you are now working on the front).

Neck edge shaping: Inc 1 on every 4th row 1 (0) 0 times and on alternate rows 7 (9) 10 times. Armhole shaping: At the same time, when the work measures 28,5 (31,5) 34,5 cm, on the armhole side inc1 st (see instructions ”Increase”) on alternate rs 6 times. When you have completed the increases on the neck edge, leave these sts on the needle. Work the other side in reverse. Now working on all sts, cast on 1 st between the 2 halves of the front. Don’t forget to complete the armhole shaping (increases) = 47 (51) 55 sts.

When the work measures 40,5 (44,5) 48,5 cm, work the lower rib edge. When you have worked 2.5 cm rib, cast off in rib.

Pocket

Using needles size 4 mm, cast on 11 sts. Work in stocking stitch until your work measures 2 cm. Then work 1 cm rib and cast off in rib.

Finishing

Block all parts to stated measurements, dampen and leave to dry. Sew the pocket onto the slipover front 5 cm up from the lower edge and 5 cm from the right-hand side seam.

Neck edge: Using circular needle size 4 mm, in addition to the 11 (13) 15 sts on the stitch holder, pick up a further 67 (69) 71 sts along the neck edge = 78 (82) 86 sts. Work 1.5 cm rib in the round and cast off. Work crab crochet/reverse crochet (work double crochet from left to right) along the sides of the slipover. Secure the front and back to each other under the arms with a few stitches. Sew only the 2,5 cm rib at the bottom.
