Rico Creative Smile. Content: 53% wool, 47% acrylic. 50g = 50m.

Knitting needles:

Size 8mm

Circular needle size 8mm (80cm) Stitch holders

Tension:

13 sts and 18 rows in garter stitch to 10 x 10cm.

Check your tension – if less stitches use thinner needles, if more use thicker needles. It is essential to work to the stated tension to achieve the correct size of garment.

Where only one figure is given this applies to both sizes.

After casting off one stitch will remain on the right hand needle which is not included in the instructio­ns that follow.

Please note: This sweater is knitted sideways, starting with left sleeve. When sts become too numerous change to a circular needle if required.

START FROM LEFT SLEEVE Using 8mm needles and thumb method cast on 30 (34) sts.

1st row. Knit.

This row will be referred to as g-st (garter stitch).

Working in g-st (throughout) inc 1 st at each end of 6th and every foll 8th row to 54 (58) sts.

Work 1 row more without shaping.

Cast on 47 sts at end of next 2 rows. 148 (152) sts.

Proceed as follows for back and front:

Work 34 (38) rows more without shaping.

DIVIDE FOR NECK

Next row. K74 (76), turn and leave rem 74 (76) sts on a stitch holder. Working on these 74 (76) sts only work 41 rows.

Do not break off yarn.

Leave these 74 (76) sts on a stitch holder.

With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem 74 (76) sts left on a stitch holder and knit to end.

Work 41 rows more.

Break off yarn, leave these 74 (76) sts on a stitch holder.

JOINING PIECES TOGETHER

Next row. With RS facing, knit across 74 (76) sts left on first stitch holder, knit across 74 (76) sts left on second stitch holder. 148 (152) sts.

Work 34 (38) rows more without shaping.

Cast off 47 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 54 (58) sts.

Working on these 54 (58) sts proceed as follows for right sleeve: Dec 1 st at each end of 2nd and every foll 8th row to 30 (34) sts. Work 6 rows more without shaping. Cast off.

FINISHING

Join side and sleeve seams. Block out garment to the measuremen­ts given and place under damp cloths and leave until dry.
