Knitting needles: Size 4½ and 5 mm Cable needle
Tension:
20 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm over reversed stocking stitch on 5 mm needles.
Check your tension – if less stitches use thinner needles if more use thicker needles. It is essential to work to the stated tension to achieve the correct size of garment.

Cast on 178 (194) sts using 4½mm needles and thumb method. Work in rib as given for back until work measures 9cm ending with a WS row.
Change to 5mm needles and proceed as follows:
