QUICK CHAT WITH TOM…

Inspirational knits, exciting new yarns & more!

-

We loved your last knitting book, Tom. What a gorgeous celebration of our favourite hobby! What was the inspiration behind this new pattern book collection?

It was all about colour, creating and adapting crochet and knitting and putting a little bit more of a fashionable twist on it. It’s trying to put a younger skew on it because for so long knitting has had an older connotation to it, but now knitting is for everyone! It’s such a special skill to be able to learn.

You must be super busy, how do you fit knitting and designing into your schedule?

I am constantly drawing, knitting and designing, coming up with designs, finding inspiration from all kinds of places, creating mood boards, that’s what I do. Robbie has started school now so as soon as I drop him off, I start knitting and designing and then, once he is in bed, I’m knitting – so whenever I can fit it in, on the tube, wherever it may be.

Wow! You’ve just launched your own yarns! How did you find the creation process?

I know, it’s so exciting! It was brilliant! I loved being able to see all the colours and the textures coming together. At the moment the yarns are just in Merino wool but we are looking at going into some others things as well at the same time, which is really exciting, so watch this space!

You keep going from strength to strength. What’s next in the pipeline for you and knitting?

There’s so many things that I’m really excited about, like the ready-to-wear collection launching! I would also love to do some collaborations because I have so many ideas that I want to put out in the world and spread that love and passion for knitting!
