The Last 12 Months Has Been A Great Year For Consumer Tech

It’s that time of the year when we hand out gongs for the best products of the year, and this year there are some really exiting winners.

-

For a start 2016 was a year when we saw some major advancements in technology.

Wireless networking is suddenly significantly faster, security cameras are now 4K and TV display technology has taken a quantum leap with the arrival of new Ultra High Definition display screens.

This technology is not isolated to top end devices as the new Philips TVs sold at JB Hi-Fi and the Bauhn UHD TVs sold at Aldi are testimony to.

In the tablet and notebook space Lenovo has taken PC technology to a new level with their Yoga Book. This device not only allows one to draw directly to the screen or write notes on a writing pad and have them appear on screen, it also has a new Halo keyboard which has led to a complete design overhaul for notebooks.

When it comes to content and the streaming of content it took Netflix to revolutionise the market. But it’s no good having a streaming service unless you have a home entertainment system that delivers you content seamlessly whether it’s downloadable movies, free to air TV or from the likes of Stan, Netflix or Amazon Prime.

The real standout during the past 12 months has been the new Mini and Mighty home entertainment boxes from Fetch TV. These boxes have taken home entertainment to a new level due to their software, functionality and the speed that these boxes process commands. There is no lag like there is with a lot of their competitors.

In the smartphone market, LG who are normally associated with OLED TVs and appliances has delivered a cracker new smartphone. The V20 took us totally by surprise. It’s thin, fast and highly functional.

This year we have some great winners and we hope that you enjoy the choices we have made in this issue of SmartHouse.
