SAMSUNG CONFIRMS NEW S9 AT CES FEBRUARY LAUNCH

-

Samsung has finally confirmed that it will release a new S9 in Europe next month at Mobile World congress in Barcelona.

Samsung President DJ Koh announced at CES that the flagship phone which is set to add more pressure to Apple’s iPhone woes that the new device will go on sale in March.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S8 last year at an Unpacked Event in March in New York and start selling the device in April. The unveiling of the Galaxy S9 comes a month earlier.

Koh also confirmed that the company was planning to launch a foldable phone sometime next year. Last year he told reporters in South Korea that the company was targeting a launch this year.

Whether Samsung will hold a separate Unpacked event, or simply hold a press conference within MWC remains to be seen.

The launch by such a high profile mobile manufacturer is certain to pry attention away from manufacturers like LG, Motorola and Huawei who are all rumoured to have announcements prepped for MWC.

Earlier rumours had suggested Samsung would preview the Galaxy S9 this week at CES, but that failed to materialise.

As for the phone itself, the S9 and S9+ are thought to offer modest upgrades on last years nearperfect handsets.

The design is expected to be the same, save for a slight repositioning of the fingerprint sensor to sit beneath the camera.

The Exynos/Snapdragon processors will almost certainly get an upgrade, while rumours have suggested a new camera capable of shooting video at 1,000 frames per second.
