Acer Claims New Swift 7 Is World’s Thinnest Computer

Acer has unveiled a suite of new notebooks at CES 2018, including an updated ‘Swift 7’, which it claims – at just 8.98mm – is the ‘thinnest computer in the world’.

The upgraded Swift 7 incorporat­es a seventh-generation Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of PCIe SSD storage. The device’s screen size has jumped from a 13.3" screen to 14" display – still 1080p resolution.

As a notable addition, the new Swift 7 boasts integrated 4G LTE connectivi­ty.

With Australian pricing and availabili­ty yet to be confirmed, the device will retail from US$1,699 in the States, with a March roll out anticipate­d.

Acer’s Nitro 5 gaming laptop (from US$799) has also seen improvemen­ts, now boasting upgraded AMD Radeon RX560 graphics card the latest AMD Ryzen mobile processors. A15.6-inch 1080p panel compliment­s RAM and SSD storage which are configurab­le up to 32GB and 512GB.

The company has also revamped its Spin 3 laptop (from US$599). Featuring eighth-generation Intel Core processors, the device’s screen has dropped to a 14" 1080p display. The new Spin 3 is scheduled to roll out in the United States in February, with Australian pricing and availabili­ty to be confirmed.

Finally, Acer also unveiled its new ‘Chromebook 11’ which for the first time will incorporat­e USB-C ports. The Chromebook 11 will feature 2GB or 4GB of memory and 16GB or 32GB of storage, and is powered by Intel’s Celeron processor. With an 11.6-inch display and 1366 x 768 resolution, the device will start at US$249 and will roll out in the States in March. Australian pricing and availabili­ty is yet to be confirmed.
