IFA 2020 To Ramp Up Smart Home Dedication

- By Jan Arreza

Smart home technology and services are currently taking the world by storm, with the maturing technology segment becoming a major revenue stream for global retailers, and IFA will reflect this for its 2020 event by ramping up its dedication to this burgeoning sector.

IFA 2019 featured a special exhibition segment dedicated to this category, which featured more than 70 international companies presenting their connected home solutions, and the buzz generated then was tremendous, hence IFA 2020’s planned expansion in this space.

Visitors to the 2020 event will be able to experience even more of the latest solutions first-hand – from digital home control using speech, gestures and expressions, to intelligent security systems and smart grids, and everything in between.

This development shouldn’t come as a surprise, as globally, worldwide spending on smart home devices totalled an all-time annual high of nearly $96 billion in 2018 alone, according to a Strategy Analytics report.

On a local level, in the past six months, Australian retailers such as Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Bunnings and Officeworks have moved to seriously expanding its connected home offerings to consumers to take a piece of the pie on this multi-billion-dollar industry.

IFA, which is the world’s leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, will be holding its 2020 event in Berlin on September 4-9.
