FLIP OR FLOP
The mirrors of a conventional Digital Micromirror Device flip between the three states of ‘on’ (angled to one corner), ‘o’ (angled the reverse way for a black pixel), and the intermediate flat state which “we don’t use”.Pulse width modulation is then used to create the grey-scale, and colour wheel/s to add the colour. With the new ‘TRP architecture’ pixel type (right), the square can also be tilted to one of the two previously unused corners and ‘latched’, then rolled to the other two directions, delivering two further flashes for four ‘flashes’ in all. At least we think that’s how it works... (Image: TI)
