What is your name?

Craig Mahoney

What is your business name and what do you do?

Mainline Automotive Equipment, we manufacture a range of performance measurement dynamometer products, for engine and vehicle applications.

Describe how your business came about.

Mainline Automotive Equipment commenced operations as a company in 1992, initially specialising in automotive diagnostic equipment sales, service and technical training. In the mid 1990’s we started manufacturing our own computer based engine analysers and chassis dynamometers for vehicle tuning, performance enhancement, diagnostic and product research and development applications.

How many years have you been in business?

Mainline Automotive has been a company for 24 years.

How many people do you employee in Australia?

14

What is your company’s best-selling product?

Our Prohub chassis dynamometers have taken off and is now our best selling product.

What are you currently developing?

Our core business is currently the automotive industry, however at the moment we are developing an outboard motor dynamometer. What do you import from overseas? Not a great deal, only around 10% of our materials to produce our products come from overseas, and we try and support the Australian markets where we can.

How much do you export overseas?

More and more all the time up-to 40% export, our 3,000HP and 5,000 hub dynos have been a huge success overseas and we are selling into America, UAE, Europe and Asia.

How much of your work is for Australian clients/customers?

We do still sell a lot of dynamometers and diagnostic equipment in Australia. Supercar team, Brad Jones Racing just installed one of our Prohub dynos in their workshop to try and find any advantage possible in a very competitive category.

What achievement or product are you most proud of?

Our 5,000HP axle hub chassis dynamometer is specifically designed for extreme performance and drag car applications. Drag car engines are usually tested out of the vehicle on high capacity engine dynos, or tested and tuned at the drag strip. Our new Prohub 5000 model dynamometer provides the ultimate in chassis tuning and testing solution.

Further comments that you believe are of interest to our readers.

Our Sydney facility has just completed a state of the art testing room, complete with our own Prohub 3000 Dynamometer. To compliment this, we are building a 2,000 HP + engine, mounted in a chassis/ jig which will measure horsepower made at the engine, gearbox and axle, putting to bed any myths about the amount of power lost through the drivetrain. It will be really interesting to see the results.
