TUFF MOUNTS DYO TOP FIVE:

-

The Dial Your Own class is all about consistency. The idea is to be as consistent as possible across the whole week - the person with the smallest difference between their quickest and slowest times wins

1> BENNY PHILLIPS

Benny Phillips took out the Tuff Mounts DYO class win in his ultra-consistent HK Holden wagon. The car runs a 434-cube small-block Dart Little M motor making 638hp. It ran 10.6 earlier this year, but at Drag Challenge it was 10.96-second timeslips all week.

2> ALYSHA TEALE

Alysha was our DYO class winner last year with her small block-powered HQ sedan and she made the most out of her entry with plenty of passes at every track. By the end of the week the difference between her fastest and slowest time was just 0.0101.

3> JOHN KERR

John Kerr and his 364-cube Mercury Comet are Drag Challenge veterans, having been at all three events now, as well as tackling multiple trips interstate, so he’s got the street driving thing downpat. Finishing third in DYO, he’s got the racing bit sorted too.

4> DANIEL BARBARY

Off to a wobbly start after a blow out on the street and then losing a windscreen racing at Sydney one week prior to Drag Challenge, Daniel Barbary gathered it all up again to finish fourth in DYO with his tough – if slightly scarred – Ls1-powered Chrysler Centura.

5> GRANT PEGLER

Yep, Grant Pegler’s Torana is a genuine SS, but it’s not what you’d call original. Under the bonnet is a stout Vn-headed 355 stroker with a TH400 and nineinch. It’s a set-up that proved to be consistent, with a fifth-place finish in DYO and a spread of 0.0192.
