AFTER winning his class and finishing third overall in Drag Challenge last year, we asked MPW’S Adam Rogash if he was happy going one better with the NOSHOW Clubsport this year.

“To be honest I was just happy to make it through to the end and just compete, and also look after our customers. We had nine cars in the field and four of them finished in the Top 10,” Adam said. “But I was happy to take out the Quickest Ls-powered trophy because that’s our specialty. We were stoked about how everything turned out.”

Adam bought the Clubsport as a stockstand­ard rolling shell about eight years ago. Since then it’s been given a major makeover, plus a Mcdonald Brothers fourlink and a full ’cage. Last year it was packing 427 cubes and twin 69mm Turbonetic­s turbos, but the guys stepped things up this year with a new 440ci LS combo that saw a pair of 75mm turbos mounted low and under the front guards.

“We didn’t want to have to keep pulling out the headlights for airflow like last year,” Adam said, “so we moved the turbos out of the engine bay, which is also better for engine bay temps.”

Throw in a new Plazmaman intake and airto-air intercoole­r and you’ve got a combo that makes somewhere in the vicinity of 1800hp at the crank. There’s so much power that traction is a real problem with the 275 radials.

“We were only running 16psi until we got to Swan Hill,” Adam said. “We tried turning it up in the afternoon on Day Four, but it hurt a solid-state relay, so we had to be happy with an 8.52@168mph. We fixed it for Calder; we ran 21psi on the last day for an 8.06@176mph.”

With consistent passes in the mid-to-low eights, Adam was able to stay in touch with eventual winner Bubba Medlyn, and won the Haltech Radial Blown class as well as finishing second overall.
