MONKEY BUSINESS

AUSSIE-BORN seven-time NHRA Top Fuel winner Richie Crampton is currently without a full-time US drive after his team Morgan Lucas Racing pulled out of Top Fuel last year, but he continues to make the most of his opportunities in the States. As we went to press, Crampton had just finished piloting Alex Laughlin’s Gas Monkey Energy Drink A/fuel dragster in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Division Three event in Joliet, Illinois. Crampton qualified fourth, but bowed out in the semifinal against Kirk Wolf. Check out our Legend yarn on page 18 for more on Richie.

SPECIAL DELIVERY

A LITTLE while back (SM, Apr ’17) we reported on Brock Mahoney’s quest for an Apollo Blue John Goss Special Falcon that took him and Ben Atkinson from Seven 82 motors all the way to Ireland to purchase the right car.

Well, after decade in the Emerald Isle, the car has now arrived safely back on home soil. Ben and his Seven82 team spent a week bringing the Goss back up to spec and ready for rego. Once the car was officially a proud Queenslander, Ben surprised Brock and his wife Claire with a Goss-only car display. “Lachlan Ney from the Goss Club helped organise four other JGSS and their families for a private catch-up,” he said.

Brock was suitably chuffed. “It was a great day,” he said. “I was completely surprised by the Goss turnout, and it was a very fitting scenario to have a cool collection of local legends welcome home our welltravelled Aussie.”
